THE CHARACTER
Being a pureblood witch or wizard doesn’t automatically mean that you’re wealthy or that you hate Muggles. Just as it doesn't mean you buy into the nonsense of arranged marriages and 'keeping it pure', like that means anything; to Brayden Richardson, it didn't. It never has, and he never understood why his parents sought more than they could afford simply because they were purebloods. He never understood why they wanted the approval of others. Those people did nothing for them and their family.
His father's unhealthy gambling problem led to their financial ruin, but it was Brayden's fault that he couldn’t marry into a good family. It wasn't because his father was an idiot and was deemed an unfit match to any 'worthy' pureblood family for their daughter to marry into. Why would anyone want their daughter associated with the Richardsons? That sadly followed Brayden into Hogwarts, though he never let anyone bully or talk down to him. He was not his father, nor would he ever be.
He had his fair share of fights while in school, both physically and with magic, and he also had a few casual flirtations here and there, but he would never take any of it seriously. Things got serious after you finished Hogwarts, not while you were there. He wanted to enjoy his adolescence, before it was gone. And fun he had, maybe a little too much fun. Still, though, he enjoyed his Hogwarts years as best as he could.
After he finished school, he managed to scrape together good enough grades to get a job in the Auror office at the British Ministry of Magic. He went through the rigorous training and passed with flying colors. He was glad for this because he needed a job that would pay him well enough to pay off the debts his now deceased parents left him. He sold everything he had and rented the smallest flat imaginable, so that he could save as much as possible.
He officially took up his post in 2007. He would remain there until an accident (in 2018) would land him a desk job for the rest of his career. Not wanting that, he started looking for a new job. That's how he found out about the open position at Hogwarts. Brayden had never thought of himself as professor material, but what harm could there be in applying?
Shockingly, he got the job, being an animagus didn't hurt either, and he turned in his resignation to the Ministry. You would have thought he'd have picked Defense Against the Dark Arts, given his career path prior to becoming a teacher, but he went with something he knew even better. Brayden had always been good at potions, amongst other subjects, and he was excited to teach the young witches and wizards the art of potion making. He's been bewitching the minds and ensnaring the senses of his students for the last five years and hasn’t regretted his decision once.
