THE CHARACTER
HISTORY:
Hadley was born outside Whitby, England, where she had a rousing upbringing wrestling and causing general mayhem with her 3 brothers. Hadley was an upbeat kid, known for digging awesome backyard holes, collecting cool rocks on hikes, and stealing plums from the neighbor’s tree. They were usually very good plums.
Once at Hogwarts, Hadley was a solid mediocre student. She enjoyed skipping class, doing things on dares, and not studying unless it was an interesting subject. She heard the term “wasted potential” and “would be brilliant if…” thrown around a lot by professors over the years. She did manage to pass a number of her O.W.L. tests, much to the shock and delight of some instructors who thought it might be a turning point going forward. It was not.
Despite her decided lack of academic acumen, Hadley did manage to graduate with some job prospects. She was good at what she wanted to be and that left her with at least some options. Instead of taking advantage of any of those, Hadley fluttered around for a while, working garbage jobs that would fund her continued living, until she saw a Gringott’s recruitment pamphlet that promised adventure, travel, and slight risk of gruesome death. It really checked all the boxes.
Hadley enjoyed roughly a decade of travel and causing international problems before a goofy little dorkbag called Sanjay asked her out. As he was not one of the many MLE Patrol guys not trying to arrest her for once, and loving a good time, Hadley agreed. The whole thing has evolved into what you could very loosely call an actual adult relationship. Or, at least as close to one as either of them could ever aspire to manage. Hadley has happily traded in flirting with people’s sisters in dive bars across the world for picking out toasters and movie nights in with Sanjay and his nephew, Devan. As an added bonus, Sanjay is the perfect counterweight when she’s doing push-ups and doesn’t ask questions when she comes home covered in dirt. Perfect life partner. She might even move in with him, assuming she isn’t killed in some freak Gorgonzola cheese accident on a mission.
PERSONALITY:
You know when you’re not paying attention and suddenly look around and it’s like, “how did I get here?” Maybe you’re in the wrong aisle at the market. Maybe you’ve missed your turnoff and you’re halfway to Miami before you realize what you’ve done. Hadley never asks that question. Not because she knows how she got somewhere, but because she doesn’t care. Wherever she goes, there she is and all that. End up fighting a man at a beach bar in Thailand over a fish? Hell yeah, brother! No questions here!
Hadley has an easy charm and the confidence to carry her through most situations, as long as they last less than an hour, maybe two on the outside. She comes in like a whirlwind, leaning heavily on her maxed charisma stats, and disappears into the night before people realize she’s actually kind of a jackass. If you’re around her long enough, you’ll start to see the signs. Kind of selfish, not huge on morals, and probably hasn’t given a genuine apology in 25 years. Hadley will do anything for the bit and has a habit of talking her friends into things that really only sound fun to her. She’s loyal, amiable, and fun to be around, but you’ve got to really love her to put up with the character quirks. She doesn’t have the patience for lying and will give her honest opinion whenever asked. It’s nice, maybe, 50% of the time.
She is trying to do better as a human, though, if only to be more of a stable presence in her boyfriend’s family life. Hadley got on well with Sanjay’s nephew from the start and, while she’s not overtly a kid person, Dev is her son now and if anything ever happened to him she’d burn down the city.
