Harry Potter:"Do you really think there's going to be a war, Sirius?"
Sirius Black: "It… feels like it did before."
TURN ON THE LIGHT is a Post- Potter roleplay that takes place twenty-five years after the Second Wizarding War.
We welcome canon and original characters in this (currently) sandbox style roleplay.
The Ball is placed in a Wales Castle. People from around the whole world and different backgrounds are coming. This Ball is about benefiting all kinds of magical creatures, and the money goes to protecting magical creatures and their natural habits. Anyone can attend this Ball as long as they pay for a ticket. Raffles are going on as well to raise more money. If you like to have more fun, you can pretend to auction people off for dates to raise more money. Have Fun!
Date or no date Seraphim was going to the ball. Who knew what chaos she'd unlease. She'd pretty much been that way since she was sorted into Slytherin and little had changed. Perhaps she was a bit wiser and more careful now but that was it.
So entering this castle after taking of her long black coat she revealed her dress. It was one of her long backless performance dresses with a quick and easy colour change charm applied to it. Tonight's choice was an emerald green number that not only showed her heritage but also her former house.
So leaving her coat in the cloakroom and keeping the tag she kept hold of her clutch handbag.
Tonight she was on the other side of the musical performance as she knew the string quartet were from the same agency as hers. So she'd have fun, perhaps get laid and drunk in no particular order. Or even only one of these aims. Chaos was now offically unleased.
As a Kaleta, there were very few things that could make Cody feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately for him, huge fancy gatherings were one of those things. He had forced himself to go though, as it was for charity and since he had also contributed a bit of artwork in the advertising leading up to it. It was by far one of his highest profile jobs, and it was that sense of pride that had helped convince his brain that going was actually a good idea.
The event was packed, and he couldn't help but to smile when he would hear people talking about his art. He wouldn't outright own up to being the person behind it, but if he was asked he would gladly take the credit he deserved. He hadn't done it for the recognition or the pay (though it was nice), but it was for a good cause and one he believed in.
He walked over to the bar, grabbing himself a drink to sip on. One or two of those and maybe he would loosen up a bit.
If there was one thing that Sydney would thank her family for, even begrudgingly, it was that it was due to them that she actually felt at ease being in fancy situations. Being the daughter of a preacher, there were many events she had attended growing up, not to mention the services themself. Many people wouldn't feel comfortable in nice clothes but it was second nature to Syd. Her shyness would melt away just a bit more when she got dolled up, though it was still a bit nerve wracking.
Tonight she had settled on a tight little red dress that hugged her in all the right places. She had heard about the event from a few different people, and since it was for charity there was no way she would pass it up. She wasn't sure what to expect, but as she arrived her eyes couldn't help but to widen.
It was her first really high end magical event, and it was everything she had thought it would be and then some. Strangely enough, her nerves weren't anywhere near what she thought they would be, which was hopefully a positive omen for the night.
The ballroom had filled up quite nicely to blend in with the crowd—people were busy talking, dancing, and filling their stomachs. In comparison, Leon was busy finding his client. While others would think this was the wrong time to make trades, Leon had felt otherwise. Sometimes it was better to do things in plain sight, and people wondered why people did not see what was happening before them.
Leon looked at his watch, making sure to keep in mind the time he needed to be there. He leaned on the bar, took a drink from his glass of bourbon, and swirled it in his hand as he studied the room before him. In his younger days, Leon would have been mingling in the crowd or would have been security for such an event, but those days were long gone. Now he was a criminal activity.

"Hello. Hello. Good evening. Oh gosh, I love your dress. Yours too. Yes and yours. Oh it's my favorite. No that one. No that one. No that one." Phoebe went from person to person with a huge grin pointing at every new pretty outfit that she saw. She looked pretty adorable herself in a well crafted outfit gingham and pink with pink floral embellishments randomly placed throughout and a huge, poofy pink broach. She was not only representing Hogwarts gloriously tonight, but also her department of Herbology.
It was during this little 'fashion parade' of sorts that she finally stopped in front of a handsome man in an equally spring themed suit. Wait a second. She knew this handsome man! Very well! But even if he had been a perfect strange she would have reacted exactly the same... because that was Phoebe Barlowe. She was everyone's friend and champion even if you gave her a multitude of reasons not to be.
"Goody!" She exclaimed with an animated gasp, holding both hands in front of her mouth but it did little to hide her eyes that were now as big as saucers. "It's you!" Not even waiting for a word on his end she threw herself at him in a huge hug. She didn't even notice if he returned it or not (nor did she care if he spilled any beverage on her) caught up in giving him a big squeeze that caused her eyes to squeeze shut tightly in the effort. "It has been too long." Another squeeze. She didn't want to let him so. So she didn't.
"Look at you. Dashing as always. How are you? What have you been up to? Still like honey carrots? Tell me everything!" She bombarded him with her line of nonsensical questioning, still hugging him but turning to babble at the side of his face with a toothy grin. "Like my dress?"
Seraphim moved freely in this busy hall admiring pretty dresses and witches but guys still caught her eye. Perhaps she was self destructive but she knew as long as she was careful and selective she'd be fine.
She'd also picked up a drink and sipped from her glass as she moved. Now she found her way back to the bar looking a refil or a surprise.
It was Cody who got her attention as she held a half empty glass. "Hey good looking. What's going on?" she playfully called out with a happy smile on her face.
Time was pasting, and it was getting closer to his meet-up. Before Leon could finish his glass, he heard a familiar lovely, and bubbly voice. Before he could get a look, he felt a hug being bestowed on him. Just from her scent, he knew exactly who it was. "Phoebe Barlowe...." His tone was shocked to see her. Gathering himself together, Leon beamed. "It has been too long." His hand was on her shoulder, also not wanting to let go.
"Still sweet, Phoebe, I see. I'm...doing ok." How was he supposed to say after her he was a mess and now a criminal? Oh, you know, just the regular life stuff, and by the way, I steal and sell things illegally since the Ministry throw me to the side like trash.
How could she remember things about him still? Phoebe was too good for him, and she had always been. "Of course they are, but I only ever liked the ones you made." His smile was soft as he remembered the olden days with Phoebe. A wonderful time in his life compared to how he was living now. "And how about you? I know you must have done great things since I last saw you?" Phoebe was a bright witch, and indeed she was a success.
"You look as lovely as ever in your dress. The Cinderella of the ball, I would say." Phoebe was still stunning, and her personality shined through with her outfit. Classic Phoebe Leon thought. Seeing her again was a pleasant surprise, and it almost felt like they had only talked yesterday.

"Just Phoebe is fine. Or Pheebs. I always liked when you called me that." She took a step back, her fingers (with pink and light pastel green nail polish, all chipped and not caring) continued to grasp onto his arms and the fabric of his sleeves. "Pheebs. Please, Goody! Pheebs." She affirmed with a giant grin giving him a little shake in her own excitement - or maybe that was because she was bouncing up and down in her light tan flats.
"So long - too long." She agreed full-heartedly, nodding her head. "We must fix that immediately. Oh look! I think that we already are." At his status update her smile faded slightly a bit worried. "Just ok?" Well, that wouldn't do. Not one bit! Time to fix it and make it all better. "Maybe because you're hungry? Yes, that must be it. Lets find you something to nosh, yes? Yes! Come, come." She grabbed his wrist pulling him through the crowd loudly announcing friendly 'excuse me's and giving happy waves even to people she had never met before.
She rushed up and down the buffet picking up finger foods as she went, letting go of his wrist to leave Leon standing there as she went about her work. Approaching him with two clasped hands she then dumped the array of finger foods into his larger ones. "Here." Smiling wide again she nodded all too pleased with herself. "Go ahead. It's all absolutely delicious. The house elves did a fabulous job and several Hogwarts students assisted. Oh! Did I tell you? I've been teaching at Hogwarts. Herbology and a cooking class. An elective of course but I quite enjoy it - just as much as flowers. Though, I suppose cooking falls under that same umbrella. Vegetables are plants, and so are herbs, and animals eat plants of course." She finished her little ramble and reached out boldly picking up a cube of cheese from Leon's hand and popping it into her mouth. Not bothered in the slightest. It was like they were back in school on the Great Lawn sharing snacks and taking in the sun while chatting away. Well, Phoebe chatted, Leon tended to listen.
"Do you really think so?" She gasped, a wider smile on her lips, absolutely thrilled by the compliment. She then did a little spin to show off her outfit properly. "I love her! She is one of my favorite muggles. She's not real obviously, now that I know of, but how wonderful - and her shoes!" She could go on and on and on - and had a thousand times. "Who does that make you? Charming? Prince Eric? Trident? Timon? Oh! Pick someone!" There she was... bouncing again - and she hadn't even had any coffee yet!
Leon had felt like a schoolboy again when she said she had always liked when he called her Pheebs. It reminded Leon of good times in the past, especially when Phoebe was a part of them. Watching her be her true self had brought such an old feeling of enjoyment. Something he had felt died long ago. "Pheebs it is." A burst of joyful laughter left his lips as he said her name. It was odd hearing himself laugh. If he had to guess, it probably had been years since any form of laughter came to him. Phoebe had that magic to make him even at his lowest to bring him joy.
'We must fix that immediately' There was nothing more that Leon wanted than to reconnect with Phoebe. Honestly, life without her was dreary and stale. He rubbed his eyebrow and gave her a gentle smile when her demeanor changed when he told her he was doing ok. In truth, he knew he wasn't doing ok. Look at the life he was leading! His hand had dropped to his side, and for a moment, he couldn't look at her until the hero Phoebe grabbed his wrist, demanding he eat some food. Leon felt like a young schoolboy running through the crowd as Phoebe led the way, just like in their Hogwarts days.
Watching her making a plate, he couldn't help but keep smiling. Thanks to her, he felt his face would fall off from all this smiling. He held on to the plate you handed him "Thank you, you didn't have to do that." He looked down at the plate of food and back to her. Phoebe always knew how to care for a friend. She was too good for anyone and especially too good for Leon.
Taking a piece of cheese off the plate, he held it when she had told him about her becoming a teacher. He wasn't so surprised When she told him she was now a teacher at Hogwarts. "That's amazing, Pheebs. Those children are lucky to have a professor like you." Leon had said, letting her take the cheese out of his hand, paying no mind to it as this had been common between the two in the old days. "Let me guess what, you teacher." He tapped his foot, thinking. "Go ahead, tell me." When she told him what she was teaching, he smiled. "That's perfect for you. I do miss your cooking." Leone remembered how he would be stuck in his studies, and Phoebe had always ensured he didn't forget to eat because he would starve if she didn't stop him.
"Of course, I think so. Just look at you!" He gestured his open hand at her as she spun to show off her outfit. "Well, I think your shoes look better than hers." He teased her.
Laughing lightly as she asked him, he shrugged. "Oh, I'm not sure...." Leone pounded for a second. "I always liked that one with the fox...what was it called, oh Robin Hood." He had always liked the story of Robin Hood. However, he was no Robin Hood at all. "That's wishful thinking, though. I'm sure I will be but a minor character." He smiled at her seeing how excited she was.

Phoebe found joy in just about everything. A fun piece of jewelry, a cute puppy, a nice day, a rainy day, a snowy day, a smile, but she was particularly thrilled when Leon gave into her request almost immediately about her little nickname. Sometimes he could be so stoic and serious but she always loved when he let go (letting go for him anyways) and smiled at her (small as it was) but then, deliciously, it turned into a loud laugh. If she was thrilled before, now she was bloody ecstatic which her bouncing and excitedly waving hands certainly conveyed.
"Oh yay! Yay. Yay. Yay. Goodie... well... Goody!" She clapped her hands together once and then promptly reached out for his arm covered by his sensible blazer that was certainly (far) less showy than her own attire. Though it had been a while since she had seen her old classmate and friend last it was like no time had passed. It wasn't just their chemistry but also because that's how the Herbology Professor approached everyone whether it be a friend from childhood or the barista handing her a mug of coffee. She just loved people - even the ones that didn't love her back.
"I am so glad that you are still so agreeable..." Phoebe noted, both of her hands at the nook of his arm as they fell into step walking along the ballroom. Again, like no time had passed. Some would have assumed that they were a couple, that's how comfortable they appeared. "And I am so very glad to see you again. It has been too long. Far too long. Don't ever do that again." And with that, she turned and gave him a playful fwap on his upper arm before falling back in step cheerily. "I do not have to do anything except that I do. I don't know if you caught on but I am extremely impulsive." The plate was in his hands and the smile returned. The butterfly clips in her hair of silver, emerald, and purple shined in the overhead light from the chandelier above them.
"Oh gosh, well thank you, Goody but really I'm lucky to have all of them." And she meant the sentiment with every fiber of her being. They were pretty much her kids. Each and every one of them even if she only had them for one class. Her own makeshift, very big fake family. "What about you. What have you been up to? What are you doing now? I so looked forward to your owls back when you were sending them that is. Not that I'm trying to guilt you. I'm certainly not trying to do that. It's just the fact of the matter. You stopped writing. Oh! That's not an accusation. That came out wrong. What I mean is you ditched me. I mean... Here." Holding up a small bit of cheese and roll she popped it into Leon's mouth. For once, it was probably better to be quiet. "Just nevermind." She popped a piece of cheese into her own mouth and then, on the next train of thought spoke with such excitement that it almost came flying out. "You can be whoever you want to be! Oh." Her hands covered her mouth in horror of her own actions.
