We always come full circle, or at least that is what her mother and grandmother used to tell her. Regardless of where one started, they tended to return there again as they got older. It was never precisely explained how that happened, but Merry believed them because, well, why not? They were her mother and grandmother; they were always right. At least when she was younger, they were. As she grew older, she learned that that was not always the case.
She was part veela, one quarter to be exact, and it was only after an incident with a boy at school (before she went to Hogwarts) happened that she was told. It wasn't until then that they explained to her that something special about her caused boys to act weirdly around her and want her more than they usually would. Merry never liked that idea and then asked if she could be homeschooled going forward. While she knew she shouldn't have to suffer for something that couldn't be controlled, she didn't want to be subjected to such things either.
She wasn't as afraid once she had a wand and was off to Hogwarts. Her mother and grandmother taught her a few spells before they brought her to the Hogwarts Express for the first time. Merry had been hesitant to go, fearing what happened years before happening again, but they convinced her she'd be fine. That was why they had taught her those spells in the first place. Thankfully, with her being only one-quarter veela, the pull to her wasn't as strong as it would be if she were her mother (half) or grandmother (full).
Her school years were some of the best of her life, at least so far. She made a number of friends, even had a few dates that never went anywhere – she was well liked and respected by her peers and professors, and was honored to have been accepted into the Healer training program at St. Mungo's. She had always been a caring and motherly person. She always offered her help to those she felt needed it, and even those that didn't, and it wasn't a surprise that she wanted to become a Healer.
She went through the program and then remained at St. Mungo's for twenty-five years before she would venture into her next stage of life, as the matron of Hogwarts. She moved into the castle in August 2023 and was more than excited to start her new post there. Being back at the castle was wonderful and she enjoyed the fact that she could now wander the halls without needing to give an excuse for why she was somewhere.
