THE CHARACTER
On many an occasion Charlie Weasley has wondered if he is the bane of his mother's existence. Keeping his hair so long it could be fully tied up in a pony-tail would likely only be the first grievance raised. Wrangling dragons in the wilds of Romania didn't just leave him physically strong, they also left him with various slashes and love bites and no mother liked to see her child come to harm, no matter how commonplace it might be. Scars gathered on the job never held a candle to the shriek that she had let out the first time she saw the tattoo of a dragon winding its way up his arm to tuck itself into his collarbone, and that had only been the first. Now he sports dragons coiling up each of his arm and depictions of various hand reared chicks scattered across his back, and his mother almost never tuts at the sight of them any more.
To some the ease with which his actions riled his mother might have seemed to be an intentional rebellion, and perhaps it was when he was a teenager and came home with a muggle 'stick and poke' on his wrist, but now it's the simple fact that Charlie follows the beat of his own drum - and isn't willing to compromise his will for a reason so flimsy as 'societal norms.'
While his tattoos are for himself alone, he's always rather proud when his siblings 'ooh' over his newest one.
For all that he might have been a Prefect and Quidditch Captain during his time at Hogwarts the straight and narrow has always been a bit of a foreign concept to him. He toed the line beautifully, until he lunged across it to smuggle a stray crup into his dorm, occupying the Prefect's bath past midnight so he could use the echo to perfect his imitation of the Welsh Green's roar, or trying to set up a lizard sanctuary in the come-and-go room (just where were you getting that eye of newt, professor!).
All of that passion also made him incredibly dangerous to poachers.
Poachers in the vicinity of the sanctuary were never a good time, but once the dragons were secured and assured to be safe occasionally there was time for a bit of fun. Fred and George had to learn it all somewhere, after all.
When the time allows and the moment strikes it is not wholly uncommon to see the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary's most mischievous staff members moving silently through the forest whilst imitating the calls of their dragons as they herd newly terrified poachers into their trap. Once the poachers have been handed off to the aurors many a good time has been had gathered around a bonfire with a few bottles of firewhisky, recalling the horrified expressions they had seen on the poachers as they became the hunted and frantically fled.
Come hatching season at the sanctuary it's quite well known among the keepers exactly where the sickly hatchlings go. From those eggs that roll from their parents nest and find their way into the sanctuary incubator there are those which don't thrive quite as easily. Those are the hatchlings that Charlie smuggles from the incubator and hand rears himself, it's perhaps the most difficult part of his job but also the part that he enjoys the most. The hissing newborns get their around the clock care and a variety of, at first crudely made but now quite nice, lures and other contraptions to play with - while Charlie watches these 'natural behaviors' adoringly.
