THE CHARACTER
Poppy comes from money who comes from money who comes from money. A long lineage of riches and entitlement. One child of seven she is also the eldest daughter and the apple of her father's eye not only because of her beauty (which she inherited from her mother) but because of her outspoken nature which is definitely something she got from the family patriarch. They are so close it is even whispered that upon his demise a bulk of his fortunate and his business (a herb growing one that provides most schools and potion makers in the wizarding world) will go to Poppy and not her elder brothers. As close as the siblings are this causes some tension - whether true or not.
Poppy is known in the socialite circle to speak her mind even if a wealthy man is on the receiving end. This has gotten her into a number of predicaments that her father has had to promptly bail her out of. Still, she cannot be tamed. Even as her family pressures her to settle down and marry a man, Poppy finds herself pushing against that as well. She is a semi closeted bisexual - in the sense that she doesn't talk about it with her parents but other folks are well aware. Her parents have an inkling but exist very much in the 'don't ask about it don't hear about it' faction.
At Hogwarts Poppy, like all of her siblings and her parents before them, was sorted into Slytherin. There she exceled in most of her classes (in particular Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Care of Magical Creatures) but also in being a mean girl. She knew how to poke people in the certain ways that hurt and did so with such precision it was sometimes more hurtful than an unforgivable curse. There are some cases of this that she now, deep down, regrets. There are others that she believes were justified.
Her first year out of Hogwarts and away from the gaggle of schoolgirls that gave her her 'power' has been a little tough and she has had growing to do. At the end of the day though money doesn't buy you a true sense of belonging and in a lot of ways, as tough of a cookie as she pretends to be, she's still searching for a place to belong amongst someone who truly sees her. Not the idea of her, not the guise she puts up, but rather who she is underneath the sharp tongue and seemingly judgmental eyes.
