THE CHARACTER
PERSONALITY: Lincoln is superficially, quite content with his life and where it has gotten him to this point. He's typically the jokester of the group - the one people more or less lean on for comic relief in stressful times or otherwise, or look to in order to organize a night out on the town. Generally, just a light that attracts those that go seeking it. While it tends to be exhausting at times, he's identified that it's one of those 'greater good' moments, and it's no skin off his back to be person that everyone associates with good vibes.
But truthfully, Link fully realizes he's not all he's cracked up to be. And in that truth, he's currently more hollow than anyone could ever really know. In moments where he cracks a smile or joke, it's never for his benefit. It wouldn't really do him any good anyway. Years of auror work have jaded him in a way that is not all too uncommon amongst his colleagues. His family, though being owed a fair tip of the cap for helping him get to his station in life, is largely out of that very same life they've helped shape, save for his siblings. Not to mention the fact that his non-familial relationships are out of whack as well. He has one close friend, and even with this, something intended to be stable and emotionally resonant, has created something murky, and unfamiliar. Everything is seemingly a reflection of his indecisiveness.
What does all of this mean? Well he's tired. Despite putting on a happy face, he's trying to rectify the ghosts of his past in a well that can't easily be done. He's a logical man, so he also understands this takes time. He's not looking for quick fixes, because he doesn't believe in them. Sometimes this logician's mentality leads to defeatism. Not realizing when he can go out and achieve goals, or get the girl (in this case, one very particular girl), or just let go of the mistakes of the past. But the most important thing is: he's willing to work on it.
LIKES: Great food, BEATRIX KIDDO , keeping people safe, old music (pre-60's), public parks, scary movies, visiting France, playing video games, playing volleyball, kindness
DISLIKES: Sandals (they're a fashion atrocity), rudeness, bullies, the news, piña coladas, snow, the politics of the wizarding world
HISTORY: Lincoln Watts was born on an unseasonably warm night in New York City's Upper East Side Mt. Sinai hospital, in late winter. He knew noise and cacophonies from the moment he existed. He was the second child of Daniel and Susanna Watts - the first being his older brother Allen, born 7 years earlier, and the third being his younger sister, Ava, being born 2 years later. New York City was kind to Lincoln in his earlier years. His Allen was a loving older brother, who really embraced the role of protecting his younger siblings. He would often take Link and Ava to Central Park the watch the ducks and turtles while their parents were 'away on business'. The three, this way formed a tight bond that remains to this day.
Link liked growing up to this point. He was still ignorant of the fact that his parents were never around, and had his siblings to rely on. Oftentimes, his parents would leave Allen large sums of money to entertain the children for an entire day, when they weren't in school. This was fun for Link and Ava. They would visit the Museum of Natural History, or Katz Deli, or simply walk the Manhattan Bridge and take pictures with their disposable Kodak camera. It wasn't until they moved, that Link started to realized the toll it took on Allen, however.
2 weeks after his 8th birthday, his family moved to a small town in Georgia. Link didn't understand why. He didn't really care why. All that he really cared about was his partners in crime were with him. Allen of course had begun attending Ilvermorny, so he wasn't around as much as he was a few years ago. But that just meant more time for Link and Ava. When Allen was around however, he began to notice a difference in his demeanor. Where once, the teen would never hesitate to entertain and occupy the time of his younger siblings, Allen became curt and withdrawn. It wouldn't be until many years later, that Link would discover that living in New York City provided an ample distraction from the disdain he felt for their parents not really being in their lives. A small town in Georgia did not provide that same level of distraction. He heard Allen fight with their parents almost daily. Their shouts echoed throughout the cavernous halls of their large antebellum home.
On a warm Saturday, about one month after he moved, he met someone who would later become a central fixture in his life. Someone who made up for the fact that Allen was in large part, changing for the worst, though at no fault of his own. Her name was Beatrix - a military brat, with a really cool bike. To this day, he can't remember exactly how they started talking to each other, but he swears it had something to do with that bike she had. They clicked instantly. They played together, built forts together, laughed together, cried together, and endured every other fathomable event pre-adolescent kids could go through together. The one thing Lincoln DID remember however, was when he knew he would never forget this girl.
It was Lincoln's last year before he was to attend Ilvermorny. He was 10 years old, growing like a bean sprout alongside Ava and Beatrix. One afternoon, while skipping stones with Ava and Bea he met Cassie Huggins. He was immediately smitten. As much as a 10 year old could be anyway. He didn't even know how to qualify what he was feeling. His first real crush. But Cassie Huggins, apparently did not feel the same way. As quickly as it happened, it was smashed. Lincoln went from crushing, to being crushed in a matter of weeks. When Bea heard the news, she made him an origami flower. He has that origami flower to this day, hidden away in a desk within his apartment. Even at 10 years old he knew, this was not a flighty person, or an individual that had any intention of not being there for him in the long run. And from there, she was forever cemented in his life.
The following year, he began attending Ilvermorny. It was difficult being away from Bea, and his younger sister Ava, but he knew this was something he needed to do. He kept in touch with both via letters, while also having the opportunity to reunite with his brother and housemate, Allen who was in his final year. Link was sorted into Wampus - he wasn't too hung up on whatever house he was sorted into, he just wanted the opportunity to do excel in his studies.
Traversing Ilvermorny wasn't exceedingly difficult, but it wasn't a walkover either. Lincoln found himself needing to apply himself more than he thought, but when doing so, did quite well in his courses. His sister Ava joined him 2 years later, herself a Wampus, and provided ample opportunities for Lincoln to demonstrate how to apply oneself. He and Bea still wrote to each other often, and saw each other every summer. It was jarring on occasion to see how much she had changed each time he saw her. Around his final year at Ilvermorny was when he started to see her differently altogether. He wasn't exactly sure what triggered it but he was certain that he couldn't tell her. He cared about her too much to watch her disappear from his life if things went south. So he bottled it up, and went on about his life, hoping she'd be none the wiser.
After graduation, he found himself in a position to be an auror. He didn't have an overwhelming desire to be one, but he did recognize the fact that if he were to become one, he could help make people safer. So that's exactly what he decided to do. He also had the qualifications to be one, which was difficult enough. He didn't realize that over time, the job itself takes a lot out of an individual. You forget to take care of yourself if you're not careful. Thankfully, he had a guiding force of Bea, Ava, And Allen to make sure he was at the very least, taking a day off every now and then.
Now he resides in a non-descript apartment with his cat, Marbles. He visits Bea frequently, and may one day oblige to show her the magical world. Truthfully she's wearing him down week by week with the request.
