THE CHARACTER
PERSONALITY: In his youth, Allen was a different person. He was full of fire, and a fervor unmatched by many his age. He was a combative boy, never hesitating to question the status quo if he thought that status quo needed a firm kick in the caboose. But it's tough to be that bucking bronco for long when the environment around you is built to break you down.
As a result of repeated confrontations with his parents, namely his father, Allen is an altogether different person. He is more reserved. Contemplative. Curious. Empathetic. Often mistaken for resignation, Allen often harbors a strong desire to understand a situation thoroughly before acting on it - a stark difference from his primary driver as a young boy.
His savior complex stems from his troubled family past. He's a wizard. If there is someone out there who needs saving, he's going to do it. He is a firm believer that everyone deserves love and affection in some form. And he also knows that not enough people get it.
His new airy personality sometimes comes off as oblivious. Though unlike the falsely tendered designation of 'resignation', this attribute rings true. He is good at diving in. Making observations often going unseen. After all, his favorite quote is, "I hope you heal from the pain you don't talk about." But when it comes to immediately observable things.. he misses them. Quite a bit. Which is how he still finds himself single at 42, with no real relationship past to speak of.
He can also be a bit of a pushover, but only when his cards are on the table. If somebody else needs him, he's Superman. If he needs himself, he's Clark Kent. He knows it's not healthy to live like that. But he feels like he doesn't have the strength to change anything. And so instead of dwelling on it, he goes outside and looks at the stars.

HISTORY: Allen Watts. The first child born to Daniel and Susanna Watts, in the big apple. For many years, Allen was alone. Brought up in the Watts household surrounded by attendants, and cold stares from his parents. He never understood why. The parents of the other kids in school always came and picked them up to walk them home. Ask them about their day. Smile at them. Love them. Cherish them. Allen never got those things. Ever when he was the one that would try to broach the subject. To this day he distinctly remembers the first time he brought a drawing home from school. It was a small frog, colored blue. He loved it. Surely his parents would to?
They did not. He remembered the look on his father's face when he pulled it out of his Italian leather backpack. He scoffed. Allen thought for a moment he was going to tear it to shreds. "What's this supposed to be?" He bellowed. Allen sheepishly replied, "A blue frog. I named him Buddy." His father frowned, shaking his head. "Well frogs aren't blue. They're also not this hideous in person. You might want to go practice." He handed the paper back to his 7 year old son. Allen's head hung low in disappointment. Tears stained the cheap 8 1/2 x 11 paper, smudging the work. Buddy stared up at him. Allen wished he were real. He liked frogs.
As time went on, Lincoln and Ava entered into the picture. Instead of being resentful, Allen embraced his role as the older brother, going out of his way to ensure that they would be protected from the things he had been subjected to. As much as he could anyway. He would take them on 'adventures' around the city, and away from the harmful words of their parents. Watch cars go by from the window of a diner, ice skate together in Bryant Park, watch breakdancers in subway stations. Whatever they could do, they did, and they did it together.
Until Allen began attending Ilvermorny, that is. He was sorted into Wampus, and his life as a wizard began in earnest. He was glad to get away from his parents, but not so much his siblings. The first year was the hardest. He struggled making friends, and irritated plenty of teachers with his rebellious nature. Going home for that first summer saw Lincoln and Ava growing like bean sprouts. He hoped Daniel wasn't too hard on them.
Time passed. The years at Ilvermorny passed. Puberty had, perhaps against its intended purpose, calmed him. He was fighting less with those who would find it pertinent to do so. Instead, finding solace in solitude. He discovered that combat and dissent would always be there. So why always fight it? No- he would pick his battles instead.
It was jarring for them to be uprooted in the summer in he turned 15. Georgia was different than New York. Much difference. The town itself was different too. He had no real friends. Just his siblings for 3 months a year. He still made what time he could with them. But he hadn't needed to protect them as much. His parents were gone far more often than they were in New York. No skin off his back.
Graduating from Ilvermorny was fairly standard. He didn't really know what he wanted to do outside of helping people. He knew he could do that in a variety of different ways. Ultimately, he elected to take advantage of his school credentials, and try his hand at being an auror. He loved it. It was everything he hoped it was and more. He was the person he had always wanted to be. Someone is distress? Save. Someone in distress? Save. The process was simple. Until one case in particular. The kind of case that Allen had been put on before.
He was 23 years old - his case closed rate was soaring, but the cases were still quite rudimentary. Dragon egg trafficking, perhaps the odd obstruction of justice or other minor illegal uses of magic. But this new case what not minor. It was not rudimentary. He wished it had been. The Robins were well know in magical law circles. They had an alleged propensity for radical, and harsh behavior towards their children, and other family members. But they were influential. Very influential. When he was assigned the case, he understood it would take months to even walk in the front door to question them. Let alone bring them to justice. He didn't know how much time he had. When the details were shared, his savior itch was raging. So he itched it.
The main piece they had trouble with, was getting tangible evidence to get warrants for arrest. Allen would get that evidence. He intruded the Robins home late one night, searching for what he needed. He founded himself in Krys Robin's bedroom. She was crying. He had a feeling that wasn't uncommon. She had been so desensitized, she wasn't even frightened by his presence. He explained who he was, and what he intended to do. She didn't reply much. Simple affirmations. He asked her to show him where they hurt her. To this day he still doesn't like to reflect on what he saw. He captured some images. The required evidence needed for the warrant. Before leaving, he gave the young girl a small compass. Typically designed for operatives in the field at specific drop points, in the event something went wrong. Krys would always been able to find Allen. Whenever she needed him. Maybe she only needed that solace. This is when Allen picked up alcohol as a coping mechanism.
Eventually, they were able to legally infiltrate the Robin home. Allen's boss publicly chastised him for his actions. But behind closed doors, Allen was a hero. Had he been caught, no one really believed he would have come back. The worst part of the endeavor, was that after removing the young girl from the home.. she had to go back. But Allen made sure to get her into Ilvermorny. That way she could spend at least most of her time away from her family. He would visit frequently - ensuring she had all the necessary tools to succeed. Whenever she needed to chat, which was infrequently, he listened. When she wanted to read, Allen would read with her. The girl had never been cared for. So Allen would do it. He had no problem doing so.
After she graduated, Allen's gift to her was a residence of her own, to further cement her disassociation with her family. He bought it outright. He had the means to do so. All of the Watts children did. She never needed to worry about how she was going to pay a mortgage or rent. She had enough to worry about in Allen's opinion - how to adjust to adult life.
Eventually the visits became fewer, and further between. Allen would stop by every now and then. But increasingly, Krys became more busy with her adult like. And Allen, increasing in responsibility as an auror, had little free time himself. He was still saving people though, which is what he had cared about in the first place. But he thought about Krys alot. How she was doing. How she had adjusted. If she was okay.
At 42, Allen spends most of his time reflecting on his past, and spending time with his siblings. Recently, Krys was appointed Head of Magical Tech, and partnered with Allen for work. He was excited! If anything just to see how she was adjusting to everything. Clearly, she had done something right. And he was so proud of her.
