TURN ON THE LIGHT is a Post- Potter roleplay that takes place twenty-five years after the Second Wizarding War.
We welcome canon and original characters in this (currently) sandbox style roleplay.
As much as this witch wanted to deny it she had to face facts. She did avoid a lot of pureblood get-togethers partly due to her working hours but she still had to attend some. She wouldn't ignore advice from her grandpa who advised her even if she didn't want to marry some male idiot to keep his family line going she might find somebody she did like if she did attend a party or two. That was how he'd met her gran. Suspiria figured he was right as she probably wouldn't find a dream guy or girl in a smokey tavern. Her grandma was even more direct and was wondering why she hadn't a great grandchild to spoil by now.
So she'd need a new dress or two. She did have a classic little black dress for dates if they came up but for these parties and events you needed something fancier. She'd prefer something simple at the same time and as she was dress shopping she was wearing one this time. A purple short sleeved day dress which dropped to her knees along with a black jacket and little flat shoes.
Her first aim was a more up to date long gown; the second being a cocktail dress and the party at her home manor would be in early December. The one she truly had to attend as she also had to help organise it. At least after that one she could head to bed without having to apparate.
This was a new dress shop to her so figured it would be a good start. The name of the owner was emblazoned on a black sign in gold paint. Zara Spellmann.
"You can do this" she said to herself and walked in. For now she could browse and seen plenty of racks of dresses. The shop was clearly much bigger than it looked. Too much choice was also a problem as she frowned. This was starting to feel like a personal level of hell.

Darren was walking down the street in diagon ally when he saw a familiar figure and called out " sussy is that you?" Darren had ot seen suspicious since graduation from hogwarts and he was surprised to see her own she was still a vision of beauty to the young dragonologyst. Darren grinned and waving like a fool at old schoolmate.he sure hoped she would remember him.
Just as she entered Suspiria heard a voice. Stepping out of the shop for now and into a part of the world she felt more comfortable in she looked round. The voice sounded familiar as the cogs in her brain turned. A man was waving like a loon at her and the pieces hadn't fallen into place. So she went closer to him to get a better look just in case it wasn't a random guy.
Now she got a better look at him there was something about the face she recognised. A mental image of dragons crossed her mind as the final piece fell into place. It was Darren and she smiled broadly. She hadn't seen him in years and not only did they run into each other at pureblood events when she was younger and still a student; he was also a fellow Slytherin though older than her. The main surprise was finding he'd grown up to look so hot.
The fact he used the shortened form of her name confirmed it. "Hello Darren" she cheerfully replied "just what have you been up to?" She could make a guess or two and those might involve bulking up at the gym. Or did you need to be that way to deal with dragons?
Darren grinned At her impishlly when she asked what he had been up to he grinned and said " wow you look amazing sussy, its so wonderful to see you. I am a dragonologyst now, I work in Austria at a dragon sanctuary hatchery ." Darren was so happy to see her she looked amazing of course sussy always looked amazing when they were in school but still she was stunning and he had the strong urge to take her hand in his but he fought it off thinking yeah right like she is single. A beautiful woman like sussy. NO way. Let alone would be interested in him.
Darren wasn't to know this but he had rescued Suspiria from a personal circle of hell. So it was only fair she give him something back in return. He grinned back then explained what he was up to. The hatchery in Austria was news to her given she had qualifed as a magi-vet which was a completely different speciality of the animal care field. She'd no reason to know about it but now she did.
Off course he would have done something like this; she'd always known Darren to be nuts about dragons in the same way she could love thestrals. They even took care of magical creatures but at different years and levels.
A thought did cross her mind that her grandma would consider somebody like Darren a good match and she wondered if he'd been paired off yet or not. Given the size of his family there was no danger of that line going extinct; unlike her family name. Thoughts also crossed her mind about a certain arts teacher at Hogwarts but today she could do Darren a good turn. She still had a lot of figuring out to do before even thinking of romance. So still single and ready to mingle.
"Oh thank you Darren. I'd never heard of that hatchery before and it certainly sounds like you enjoy your work there. I got the post I aimed for as a magi-vet and it does lead to a lot of travelling; I have to go to the patients". Then her impish smile returned as she made him an offer. "How about we call into the leaky cauldron for a drink or two?" Perhaps more as food was always an option.
"I would love that sussy after you" he said gentlemanly allowed her to walk ahead of him he so wanted to take her hand and lace his hand to hers but he knew that was far to forward just yet. " if you don't mind my asking sussy how's your family doing these days?"
His mind wandered to how much he adores her for her passion for magical creatures just as he had. Darren was interested in getting closer with her maybe one day he could invite her out to the sanctuary hatchery and show her around but that would have to wait until later in time.
Family were minor sore point for Suspiria. On her grandparents side there wasn't much of the English Maxtible's left. There was a Canadian branch out in the Yukon territories who were horse ranchers but the only real direct family there was left was her grandparents. On her late mothers side, the Carberry's she still had to deal with two grandparents in Oxford who hadn't changed their views on muggles and Voldemort even although it cost them the life of their only child. There were other Carberry's she vaguely knew about but never really had much contact with. More like weddings and funerals territory.
The minor sore point was eased because her grandma and grandpa had raised her and she took a lot more from him than her. She was born in the last year of the previous war and had no memories of parents; she'd only ever known them. Suspiria figured that she'd have been visiting them in Azkaban had her parents lived.
So leading the way to the leaky cauldron it looked a little busier than normal for a typical afternoon. She looked round for a possible table first up and then headed to the bar area with Darren. Now she could talk while their orders were being prepared and would be brought over to their table for two. "The family situation isn't so good Darren" she sighed adding "I'm the last of the English based line for starters and my grandpa and grandma are still around. My other grandparents whom I still need to visit are still unenlightened despite two wars and lots of death. I hope they can at least not get sucked into more trouble".
That summed up her family situation and it was the driving reason why she was so into animals. They'd always be around and there would always be work to do. She wanted to marry for love anyway but there had been sparks flying between her and Darren before. Who knew what that could lead to if they got around to them both acknowledging it.
"So what is the clan up to?" she posed back smiling. That probably would be a long story and the Rynehurst's were an unusual family too. There was never usually this many children in a pureblood family.
Darren smiled widely at the mention of his family and laughed then said" to be straight from the hip sussy I have no idea most of them work at the ministry or in diagon ally here they don't talk to me much anymore but that's fine they have thier lives and I have mine, the twins I know are starting thier last year next term and that's going to be a crazy experience going to my youngest siblings graduation, it seems like yesterday we were graduating it seems. Darren smiled at softly and ordered a pomegranate spritser white wine.
After his 3rd glass of liquid courage Darren decided to make a bold move as he gently reached out and brushed a stray hair from her cheek, letting his fingers linger a little longer than they should. " I would very much like to see you again sussy, do you think I could pick you up after work sometime soon and take you out on a proper date?"
Truthfully you couldn't say that Suspiria had a family tree anymore. It was closer to being a twig by now and that got her off the hook. She still needed to attend some events but that was more to see who was around rather than being matchmaking business.
She smiled as Darren gave his family news. It was crazy that the youngest were nearly graduated. She could still recall her own graduation very clearly just as she could remember his. It also made her remember that of the group of Slytherin witches she'd spent seven years with there was only her left with a single and ready to mingle status.
"That is crazy. I remember both our graduations very clearly" she chuckled.
That didn't really bother her although. The drinks kept flowing as they kept talking about things other than family. She asked more about the hatchery he worked in and then he had an announcement to make.
With nothing to loose after the touch on her hair she figured she'd accept. "I'd like that Darren but I may not be so easy to find. If you leave messages in Magical Creatures we could work from there.I'm not usually there for very long during the working day" she added with a smile. They'd find a way to make this work.
