Sitting in her office, she brushed her hair aside as she signed papers, wrote a letter, and so much more. Being the President came along with lots of paperwork, surprisingly. Actually, not lots but loads of paperwork. At least today, she could put it aside for the day as she was scheduled for an event at the local wizarding hospital.
Macha would meet with patients and go to the pediatric ward to speak to the children there. It was something she was looking forward to. Macha had always liked interacting with people. She could hear them from people firsthand rather than through paper or other media, and it was more personable as well. Macha wanted the witches and wizards of the U.S. to know that Macha was there for them. While others wanted power for her position, she never desired it. She felt like it belonged to the people and needed to hear from the citizens firsthand.
Tapping her foot as she looked down at the papers at hand, she waited for her bodyguard of the day. Every day, a different auror would escort her around, and it wasn't something she liked. Macha was a tough cookie, and she could take care of herself, but there were protocols she was bound to follow.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Lincoln jogged through the hallways, half-eaten bagel in his mouth. Leave it to him to be late on the one day he was assigned to escort the President of MACUSA around. And leave it to Bea to give him the ‘5 more minutes of snuggling’ argument on the same day. Though perhaps he didn’t need to accept her offer. But she had to have known he would. It was sorcery. Witchcraft, from a person with zero magical inclination.
He turned the corner and stopped in front of the president’s office. Her nameplate read on the door. Macha O’Keefe. He had never been in this office, regardless of who it had been inhabited by. Well no matter what, he was already late, right? So he stood there, scarfing down the rest of his half-eaten bagel until it was a fully eaten bagel. Cheeks full, still swallowing, he opened the door and walked in, not bothering to knock.
“Ms. O’Keep-” He couldn’t get the pronunciation right with a mouthful of toasted bread. “Sorry, one sec-” Chew..chew..chew..swallow…chew…swallow. There we go. “Okay! Hello, and sorry about that Ms. O’Keefe. Bagels and such. You know how they can be.” He strode up to her sitting form, and held out a hand to shake. “Lincoln Watts. Of Watts fame. Auror to the stars. So what’s the assignment today? Treacherous trek through a dark cave? Top secret undercover mission?” He jested but genuinely didn’t know what this kind of detail held for him for the day.

The door opened, and Macha picked up her head. If there was one thing Macha was bad at was hiding her facial expressions. A face of confusion appeared as he tried to scarf down his food still. Was this the person escorting her today? If so, they were off to an interesting start so far.
Macha stood up from her chair and grabbed his hand to shake. "I didn't know that there was another Watts. Nice to meet you, Lincoln, if you don't mind me using your frist name?" The Watts was a big family name in the American wizarding world, and Macha had remembered little Allen Watts from Ilvermorny being a few years his senior. There was also Ava Watts, Head of Affairs at Magical Congress. The whole family seemed to work for MACUSA.
This Watts seemed different. Not bad, but not one she was used to. Lincoln had made a joke about where they were going and seemed to go over Macha's head most of the time. Letting go of his hand and grabbed a purse next to her. "Cave, no, no, I wasn't briefed on that. Unless you know something, I don't?" An eyebrowed raised. What did he mean by that? Oh, it was a joke. She finally got it. A bit of an icebreaker, she guessed. Her VP did tell her she needed to understand jokes better."You weren't brief on what you were doing today?"She placed her notebook in her purse. "James Steward Hospital, talking to some patients and then going to the pediatric ward to talk to the children." She looked up at him. "Not the fun adventure type you were looking for?" Macha walked from behind her desk.
There was a certain level of formality in the greeting that the older woman used that Lincoln wasn’t quite ready for. Perhaps not the best look to come in so sloppily then. He swallowed again, this time with no bagel, before responding. “Oh, yea. You can totally call me Lincoln. Or Link, if you’d like. You probably know Ava and Allen. They’re important folks. Ava does law and whatnot, and Allen works on special cutting-edge missions and whatnot. I more so..” He was curious. What was he, exactly, compared to his siblings? He frowned. “I guess I’m just the regular-degular one. Oh well! I’m good at bodyguarding though, I think, and that’s what matters today. More or less.” Fair play. His smile returned, largely unbothered by whatever aspirations he may, or may not have had. He recently accomplished all he would need to for the time being.
Wait.. is she being serious? Cause..cause I wasn’t. “Oh no, uh no caves today, I think, ma’am. Your excellency. Ms. O’Keefe. I think I’m going to continue calling you Ms. O’Keefe ‘cause the other two are a little stuffy.” Who was he to tell the President what she was going to be called? He quickly realized his error. “Uhm unless you really like your excellency, your excellency. In which case your excellency, I was not briefed accordingly on what the detail would entail today. Just that I was supposed to shadow you all day, and in the event of some sort of safety issue, I was to get you to safety as quickly and efficiently as possible.” Lincoln wasn’t given exactly what he was supposed to be doing either. Was he allowed to talk to her while on detail? Was he supposed to look serious? Could they get Big Macs for lunch?
Oh. The hospital. Link didn’t love hospitals. Not a lot of people did. But they scared Link. The memories came back at once. His love - scared, feverish, unsure. Him, powerless. “Oh- cool. That’s really awesome. I’m sure they’ll love you.” A little stiff. He hoped it wasn’t too obvious. It was a clear enough departure from the man he was moments ago. “No I mean.. sometimes these adventures are the ones that matter the most.” He gave her a weak smile, and about faced to the door, ready to depart. “How does this work for you typically? Apparate? Walk? I brought my Hokas just in case it’s the latter.” He raised each knee one after the other, stretching.
