How did he find himself in Pinelands, New Jersey? Well, he heard rumors, and no, not of the famous Jersey Devil. Agustin had heard about a crystal-like honeycomb that was a beauty to the eye and, most importantly, held magical properties. Properties rumored to heal people. Most people had gotten close o it, but they said they had been chased off, and some... well, some did not make it back to tell their tale.
It was an odd piece he had to get his hand on, even if it didn't hold healing properties. He could donate to the wizard medical professional before the MACUSA government could get its hands on it.
Walking through the pineland, the sun had started to set. It was nothing to worry about, and Augustin had gotten too customed to traveling in all light and darkness. He had gotten more deeply into the woods when the light left him. "Lumos," Agustin waved his wand to create light around him. Looking around, he tried to figure out where to walk next. The location last told was near the Ruins of Harrisville.
Near the area, a glint of yellow tint had passed his eyes. Was this it? Was it that easy? He spun around, walking towards it. It was wrapped around a lovely amount of different flowers. Flowers of pink, gold, and lavender flowers. In amazement, he looked at it. Agustin almost did not want to take it from its home. He grabbed a knife out of his pocket. Depending on its strength, Agustin could cut a piece off or shave it. As soon as he got close, Agustin heard a creek and turned his head. Slowly Agustin backed away and looked to see glowing eyes. Before he could do anything, a creature was lounging at him. He dove out of the way, losing his wand on the way. Agustin looked back up, taking a deep breath to see a ghoul. Not his first encounter with one, but it was a creature he did not want to deal with any less. Now he needed to run and get his wand back before he was torn apart.
Allen should’ve known there’d be at least a small catch to Burke’s solution. No way he gets into that much trouble and not only gets off scot-free but gets what can only be determined to be a reward. It wasn’t that much of a bother for Allen obviously. It was a small price to pay. So small, that he was almost eager to do it. He just hoped it didn’t snowball into more intensive tasks. But now that he was in Pinelands, he had already traveled quite far for the endeavor, though at the very last, he was getting paid for it.
Allen Watts owed a favor to Antoine Burke. And Antoine Burke owed a favor to Marcus Jensen. So Allen would pay the reparations. His task was to track one Mr. Agustin Trujillo. Oddities Hunter, and report back with any breaches of protocol. Allen didn’t quite know exactly what a breach would entail. He was promptly told that Agustin must turn the object in question over to MACUSA possession. Fair enough. He didn’t have any skin in the game. And by extension, it would be done for Krys.
Allen knew Mr. Trujillo. Not particularly well, but well enough that he could put a face to a name, and didn’t require an overabundance of briefing before departing on his journey. Why else would he be tasked with tracking an oddities hunter, directly from the head of the department himself? He sauntered quietly through the preserve. Footfalls muffled as he walked in line with his mark. He was roughly 100 yards off. He didn’t need to risk any detection. That was complicated. And he was very much going for the opposite.
Allen watched as Agustin observed the object in question. Allen had no idea what it was - he could barely make it out from his distance and angle, so he began to close the gap slowly if only to get a better look. But as his senses sharpened to the object, he watched as a greyish blur enter his visual frame, knocking Agustin over. Ah. This was not a part of the deal. Allen was off - dashing towards his comrade. He could complain all he wanted to, but he would never turn down an opportunity to help. To save. “Flipendo!” He cast the Knockback jinx, not keen on hurting the creature, but still recognizing the need to gather space. The ghoul stumbled, losing its balance on the uneven forest floor, and fell over, annoyed. It would be up soon. Allen looked down at his feet, spotting Auggie, but no wand. Damn his distancing. “Are you alright? Find your wand, we have to go. We don’t have much time. I've likely only annoyed him.” Allen’s astute observation was proven true as the creature began rising to its feet once more. He eyed what Auggie was looking at earlier - the object. It was beautiful. “And grab that too.”

Was this going to be the end of his tale? By some Ghoul, after all, he survived a Hidebehind attack, and there was no way he would get taken out by some regular Ghoul!
Before he could get up, he saw a golden light hit the ghoul, who was about to rip Agustin apart. Turning his head quickly, he saw a man. What? Where? No time for questions. They were now on. A ticking time bomb as the ghoul was getting back up.
"You don't have to tell me twice." Augustin pushed up from the ground and ran to where his wand had left. Oh good, no harm done to his wand. That was a relief. He took a breath and looked over at the crystallized honeycomb the man told him to take. There was no time to be gentle, but at the same time, he didn't want to harm the object as well.
Hearing the beast's grunting, he looked back at the man. "I need you to. buy me time." Auggie was unsure of the man's motives, but Auggie could worry about that later. Like on many of his adventures, he was used to betrayal, which came with the territory of being essentially a treasure hunter.
Right now, he wasn't leaving without this object, and it could be a lifesaver for all. It was the faith he had to give this man. Auggie ran up to the object, looking it over quickly to find where to cut it. He was unsure how important what was around it, and it could have been its life source for all he knew. He grazes his finger across the object, feeling how sensitive the item is. With that, he was going to take everything around it. He grabbed the knife next to the honeycomb he had dropped when he heard the creature and started cutting unearth slowly, trying to save the roots under it. Quickly Auggie, do it quickly and carefully. He hoped that his new ally had his back.
Buy him time. Okay. Probably easier said than done, but Allen could likely manage. He was paid to handle tasks much more involved than this. But that didn’t make him any less nervous in the moment as the humanoid creature began rising from whence it fell. Its face shown nothing but ill-intent and malice towards the middle-aged auror. “Oh, alright then. Let’s dance a bit shall we?” He made a mental note to introduce Krys to that turn of phrase, before darting off to his right.
The ghoul wasted little time in pursuit. Allen briefly looked over his shoulder at his mark, before the ghoul filled his visual frame entirely. He hadn’t expected it to be so quick. It bounded over fallen trees, taking great care to throw large branches at Allen as it went along, one striking him in the back. He stumbled, wincing from the pain, but pushed onwards, beginning to cut in a different direction the ghoul followed closely. Allen was not losing ground, but he wasn’t gaining any either. He looked over at the man, who seemed to be handling whatever it was they had come for. “This had better be worth it.” Allen struggled to get the words out, the rambunctious nature of footfalls on the forest floor paired with what his body was now considering exercise.
Allen made a swirling motion with his hand, and muttered, “Fumos.” as he ran. Thick gray smoke poured out from his wand as though he had set the forest ablaze. He ran behind a tree trunk as the smoke continued to emanate from the source. He didn’t hear the heavy footsteps behind him anymore. He could hear guttural grunts of frustration as the beast searched for its target amongst the obscurities. Okay. Gotta be careful now. He crept forward toward Agustin as he was still wrapping up handling the object. In a hushed voice, he made himself know. “Hey. We need to go sooner rather than later. Eventually, that smoke is going to dissipate.” He could already see the glowing eyes of the ghoul through the smoke, looking around. He ducked to where Agustin was. Just in case. He readied his wand just in case the beast caught on to what happening. “What is that thing anyway? Something worth potentially dying for, I hope.”
