THE CHARACTER
Oswald was born to two muggle parents who really were averse to the idea that their son was magical. He was the first born to them, and while a little sister came three years later, they had high hopes for their only son. His dad had a business in London he was hoping Ossie would be heir to, but when they discovered, to their shock, that he was a freak of nature, they basically disowned him from it.
This has made Oswald quite a defensive, untrusting person because of how flippantly his parents disregarded him as they did. However, they did not put him out, but kept their distance, helping him, feeding him, for it was the 'least they could do' to help someone in his dire, unfortunate situation as a magic weirdo. He became an angry person for this reason, and the only one who showed him any compassion in all of this was his baby sister, whom he still keeps up with, and who left their parents after she was old enough to be there for Ossie.
Wanting to fit into the magical community so badly, Oswald put all he had into Hogwarts school, doing his best at the subjects of magic, and becoming quite versed in Charms. He was not good enough to be a teacher or anything, but he proved himself despite the bullies and people who said he couldn't be good enough as a muggleborn. Unfortunately, just because the war was over, did not mean life would be easy for people like him.
He took up Quidditch quite naturally, and fought hard to rise to the top, being competitive and aggressive in wanting to earn his place on the team. He played for Raveclaw house, which was where he would be sorted, for most of his time at Hogwarts, eventually graduating and earning a place on the prestigious Wimbourne Wasp's team. He wrote his parents telling them he had made it in the Wizarding world, even though they thought he would become nothing. They never responded, but his sister was there to support him during most, if not all, of his big games.
Unfortunately, while he was very competitive and a good, hard-working player, Oswald's attitude was not so impressive. He was often standoffish and rude to people, even fans, and that was all a defense for not wanting to be hurt. He tried so hard to win his parent's approval, but to no avail, and that has made him think quite lowly of himself despite his accomplishments.
Oswald's negative karma attitude finally caught up with him three years ago when he ended up running ahead into another player on the field, losing control and damaging his head. He was in St. Mungo's for at least a month, or longer, he can't remember now. But he was basically comatose, and when he came to, he didn't know who he was for the next year, until he finally came to. Through all that, he was homeless, no job, nobody but his sister there to try and get him to remember who he was. Eventually the memories came back, but the damage was done. He was a hollow of himself, and he barely got it together, getting into fights in pubs, you name it. One night he got so mad at his sister she began to cry and told him he either needed to get a job, get himself together, or leave the house she was allowing him to stay in with her. He had basically become a leach and it was hard, and it made him feel ashamed. So, this past year, when he scoured the job boards to find something he could do, that would be meaningful and give him some sort of meaning. He couldn't go back to Qudditch, as he had some PTSD about the accident, and the doctors said if he got injured like that again, he may not wake back up.
So, at the beginning of this school year, he's found a job at Hogwart's as the groundskeeper. He always had fond memories of Hogwarts, and it was the one place he felt acceptance, so he knew it would be a good place to be for the time being. He had a few connections with past professors who gave him good references, despite how he had been somewhat of a troublesome youth there at times, but the headmaster/ess gave him a chance, and he knew he couldn't screw it up.
Now he is doing his best to fit in, and do better, as his sister has encouraged him to meet some new people and be a friend, in order to get a friend. It's hard, but he's doing his best, and he knows he doesn't want to go back to where he was a couple years ago, that is for sure!
