Harry Potter:"Do you really think there's going to be a war, Sirius?"
Sirius Black: "It… feels like it did before."
TURN ON THE LIGHT is a Post- Potter roleplay that takes place twenty-five years after the Second Wizarding War.
We welcome canon and original characters in this (currently) sandbox style roleplay.
Seraphim couldn't recall having a gig outside the uk for a long time; the last time not long after she graduated from Hogwarts. It was a fancy pureblood affair that she thought she would just have to endure but afterwards she'd gotten herself a French wizard for the night. Even remembering that made her smile as he had given as much as she had. Tomorrow she'd be performing in New York with the rest of her string quartet at a MACUSA sponsered ball.
Today she did have time to follow up on a special present she wanted to get her mother; an 'I heart New York' t-shirt just wouldn't cut it though she'd get one or two for herself.
So armed with a map and directions this would be a tricky set of apparations as she didn't know the country and she certainly didn't want to crash into any muggles while she was trying to find a certain town and an even more precise location. The wizard she was looking for was Agustin Trujillo and his shop was Hidebehind Oddities.
Given the need to not be found out by muggles she'd kept todays look simple. It was a more severe winter than she was used to so over her black t-shirt, jeans and boots she wore a naval style pea coat. A style she'd have worn back in the UK anyway.
Things had started well but once in New York state proper the map had gotten a bit vague. By the time she found the shop it was a couple of hours later as well as a stop for a coffee break in a small town diner two towns prior. She felt a bit tired and dizzy as she looked at the front door. At least the open sign was up as she pushed at the door. A bell tinkled and she had her first look at Hidebehind Oddties

Only a few days have been spent in the shop. Usually, he was off looking for new things to find. Very rarely had he ever worked the shop. That's what he had his one employee for. They were a much better people person than he was, anyway.
It was time, however, to review the store's inventory. Agustin needed to go over the plans of what he needed to find more of and what was needed to push out the door.
Augstiun was standing on a ladder with his notepad floating beside him so he could keep track of what he was doing. As he flipped throw some of the books on the wall, he heard the bell go off. A sound he needed to be more used to, but he did not want to. His employee was in the back, which meant he needed to do his job well.
He looked over to see a woman with a pea coat on. "Welcome to Hidebehind Oddities." He started to claim down the ladder. "Are you looking for something in particular?" He asked never seen the woman before. Agustin knew there were repeat customers, but some even asked him to find certain things. He hoped it wasn't one of Jenson's spies either. These were fun moments when he would figure out the government was making sure he wasn't finding anything of interest.
Having a map and notes written on muggle stationary might well put Agustin's mind at rest. A government spy would know exactly where to go by now and she looked slightly confused. She was where the map and notes told her the shop was but now she needed to locate Mr Trujillo.
"Thank you for the welcome. It's not a specific item but I was told this shop could provide something unusual even in the wizarding world. I'm looking for a present for my mother and a t-shirt just wouldn't cut it" she softly replied and it was obvious she didn't come from this town. Her accent was pure Irish after all but she still could have lived in the states. People from her country got everywhere but she hadn't picked up local words.
"I was also told in New York that a Mr Trujillo was the wizard to talk too" she added. As she was a customer he might just get his wish and offload something that was taking up space. It's new home being Hogsmeade in the UK. That might be another issue when she got back but right now she was looking for something different and special.
"She likes jewelry and especially necklaces" Seraphim further added figuring this would helpful information at least.

Hmm, While his paranoid thoughts had consumed him, it seemed like this was a genuine customer. More so, she wasn't asking for anything too crazy or specific. Usually, that was the key for him. If anything, she seemed determined to get her mother a unique gift from the States. "I can understand that." He did hate seeing those I heart New York shirts, and they were overrated to him.
"Oh, Really?" Curious about who told her about him. It was alright, after all; it was a way to get business. "Well, I guess it's good business that someone gave you my name." he rubbed his face thinking of what they have. She talked about jewelry.
"Sure, I have a few unique items. Follow me." He waved her on, taking her to the side of the store where they had placed unique jewelry items. He pulled out one Necklace. "This is a mermaid necklace found in the lakes in England while I was there. Take a look." He handed it to her.
Seraphim's need was genuine as she smiled back at the wizard she was seeking. He'd confirmed it and she followed him to the other side of the store. She kept her attention on his despite all the things round her that could be distracting.
"It was the ball organiser who recommended you. It's my first time in the US and it was quite a journey even finding you" she replied. "This looks very different to what I can normally find at home. I live in Hogsmeade and grew up there when I wasn't at Hogwarts. Have you ever been up as far as Scotland?"
This looked like a promising start as she felt the little bit of weight in this and considered its uniqueness. "I think she would like this. Can you tell me where in England you found it?" She might know a bit about the area in question.

Agustin was surprised that someone had remembered him even to recommend him to anyone. However, Agustin liked to be on the down low, but business was business after all. " Oh, do you remember the name? I worked with many people in the U.K. to remember their names." In this line of work, people came and went. "Yes, many times, quite beautiful black. Though I have to say I've never seen Hogwarts in person." The man had heard many stories of the place but had never been invited to go on school grounds.
"I found it behind an abandoned house outside Pluckley Village in Kent. In a lake at the bottom. I restored it to its heyday, and now it's looking for a new home. Not one of my most exciting stories but it. I guess not all of them can be that fun." He shrugged, smiling. " Most of the time, it is quite a calm journey. Have to keep the shop filled somehow." He rubbed his head with his free hand.
"Unless you are looking for more of an exciting story for a piece for your mother? Some people like the story more than the piece itself."
Seraphim thought about just how she'd gotten to play for a US based ball and with a little smile she remembered. "My agency in London; thats Septimus Turner's company handled the quartet booking and all the arrangements before we got to New York. I'm a professional musician and the work is string quartets or as part of larger musical groups. Sometimes even playing a violin in a recording session whern the group dosen't have their own violinist" she gently replied. Like Agustin business was business for her and it could be rather varied.
"I travel quite a bit in the UK but don't believe I've ever been there. You really should pay Hogsmeade and Hogwarts a visit next time you're up that way. Neither has really changed that much since they were established" she added. "It does sound like an interesting story all the same. The question is why it was in a lake in the first place? I do believe she will like the story and present in any case" the Irish witch said as she figured this would be the prefect thing for her mother. It might well have started life of in the UK and then gotten to the US via the wizard in front of her. Now it was about to make it back there as a gift for a witch who would truely love it.
"I'm interested in taking this off your hands Mr Trujillo. So is the house your UK base these days?" she futher added. Things were looking up for her during this time with Turner Musical Services and at Mr Turner was a good boss. An overworked one so she tried to not cause him too much bother.
