Harry Potter:"Do you really think there's going to be a war, Sirius?"
Sirius Black: "It… feels like it did before."
TURN ON THE LIGHT is a Post- Potter roleplay that takes place twenty-five years after the Second Wizarding War.
We welcome canon and original characters in this (currently) sandbox style roleplay.
"Another," said Regina as she sat at the bar, only strands of her hair escaping from beneath her hoodie. She told herself that she had to be the world’s worst mother. In the middle of the night she had left the castle, her baby girl (the only thing in this world that she really cared about), and hopped on the Knight Bus. That decision alone should bring her character in question. However, the most damning thing is that for a moment, she actually considered never looking back.
Of course, to put things in context, she was on official business. Rather than frequent the local apothecary, Regina preferred to obtain some of her items directly from the source. That meant reaching the Highlands just before dawn to acquire a variety of dragon parts, frequenting the gardens of Avalon for more exotic flora, and bribing (or outsmarting) trolls to part with that sprouted between their toes. They were truly foul-smelling things, but excellent, economical sources of brimstone. This was typically how Regina spent a Hogsmeade Weekend every other month.
As for the bar? Well, she like any other widow deserved to drown her sorrows. Wasn’t she entitled to get sloshed and totally legless? A long sigh escaped her lips, knowing the small vial in her purse would sober her up rather quickly. It was her own special concoction, but it had its own side effects. More than likely she’d have to place a pillow next to the toilet bowl a few hours afterwards.
She suddenly heard a chime come from her pocket. Reaching into it, she saw that an reminder alert had come up on her phone. More than likely, if her mother knew that she had one, her toe nails would curl. After inspecting the reminder, Regina's eyes rolled as she realized she had completely forgotten. "Merlin's left tit," she cursed. Demi's birthday was this coming Tuesday, she hadn't bought a gift yet, and had absolutely no idea what to give her. "Better make that a double," she called out to the bartender.
Suspiria shook her head when she entered this place from the back door. Given the day she had she felt burnt out, annoyed and ready to get legless, kiss a girl and not regret it the next morning. Ready being the word as she swept into the tavern proper wearing a long sleeved mid length green dress and her dark grey travelling cloak with thigh high boots. At least she could leave her backpack at the office.
"F*ck this for a bag of ferrets" this witch muttered certainly not sounding ladylike. An outburst that would have her grandfather laughing and grandma being mortified. She was a pureblood but didn't get on like one and frankly hadn't for a long time. It was only at the rare events she went too she vaguely looked like one.
By now she'd reached the bar rolling her eyes. "Firewhiskey please" she asked the bar keep after giving him a chance to process the request that Regina made.
"Good evening. Oh what a day it's been" she added with a little smile after looking at Regina. Perhaps the company of strangers might just lighten her mood.
Regina's attemption was captured by the woman that had entered the Cauldron from the rear. From her verbage alone, she appeared to be near her wit's end. Her drink order seemed to affirm just as much as she took a seat at the bar. For the time being, Regina sat and attempted to mind her business and keep to herself until the other woman spoke up, commenting on the sort of day it had been thus far.
"Tell me about it," said Regina. She took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. "I'd love for it to be over, but still have plenty to do before my day is done." It was a vague description of her day. Besides, Regina didn't want to bend the ear of the woman for simply being courteous and making a flippant remark. "If you don't mind me saying, sounds as if your day is going about as well as mine."
Suspiria counted out the coins and handed them over. The other woman didn't seem to have a great day either as she then knocked back half of the fiery liquid back in one go. "I'm a travelling medi-vet and not close to being of the clock yet. A farmers daughter knows for a fact they've a jarvey on the loose in the barns. She went to Hogwarts and we had to find it together; it took forever to spot it then stun it. So she's got it caged and its swearing like a construction wizard. It even called me pink and yellow" she replied with a sigh.
"I love my job but some days are just crazy" she added shaking her head.
