THE CHARACTER
Stoker's Sweets is a century old family business built on the foundation of a centuries old relationship between an understanding but select amount of families and the local vampire community. One of the finest producers of nigh on every possible sweet or baked good catering exclusively to vampires. Naturally, given the tight knit communities, there was a fair bit of crossover. Em's parents were hardly the first across the community to pair up, nor the most surprising. As sweethearts since their school years it had always been more of a matter of when than if. It was even less of a surprise when months after they'd been married the pregnancy was announced.
And so came bouncing baby girl Emmerson Rory Seymour into the world.
Their daughter? Well, she was raised the eldest daughter of the family and presumed to take over the family business if she chose to. With a younger brother and sister there wasn't a huge amount of pressure on her to take on the mantle and yet she very much felt the weight of the responsibility growing up.
Growing up in a candy store wasn't all gumdrops and lollipops.
Or, not just those anyway. Even as a preppy five year old little Emmerson had felt a certain responsibility for the store, bopping up to customers with a bloodpop hanging from her mouth to chatter about everything in the shop. She extolled the virtues about everything from the red cell gumdrops to jugular jellies, and her favorites even more. She'd have you believe she contributed to quite a few large sales back then, and maybe she did.
For all that they might have tried to do to avoid it growing Emmerson's sense of responsibility for the family business grew as it and she did. By the time that Emmerson was heading off to Hogwarts for her first year their little shop from their small insular community was opening its first branch outside of that community - in Hogsmeade. So naturally Emmerson had felt the need to extol their virtues, and defend their little shop from any nay-sayers. It wasn't exactly surprising, the amount there were. Everyone had an opinion about the new odd little shop and not all of them were positive.
So, Emmerson tries to stay peppy and put on a good face for the family company, probably acting more formal than she ever should - but she isn't particularly great at keeping up a stuffy more formal persona. Soon enough her true cheerful and upbeat personality sneaks out and she isn't able to hide it away again. It certainly makes her seem like more of an oddball and hasn't exactly helped her to make friends, not the girl chattering about the vampire store with a blood pop hanging out of her mouth.
Yeah, her first year at Hogwarts was rough.
But, eventually Emmerson managed to find her niche and now as a sixth year she has a small group of friends and, as she would have you to believe is a credit solely to her, the new branch of Stoker's Sweets is thriving and a third branch is in the works.
