THE CHARACTER
It would be fair to say that Emiko is one of those freed by growing out of their childhood, by leaving the heavy yoke of her father's expectations. Her upbringing was complicated and messy, to say the least, and at this point, she only keeps contact with her mother and younger brother. Cutting away all of those old tethers brought new air to her lungs and a new smile to her face. Grounded no more by the expectations of a pureblood father and his expectations on how to act and what to say to who - something which had turned her into a bit of a mean girl as a child.
Expectations. The word makes her cringe these days, bringing shame to the forefront of her mind. Then though? Then it was the only thing that she knew. Something that felt like life or death, and could have been for all she knew. She fell in with the wrong crowd, hurt her friends, and hurt people close to her. Because of expectations. Because her father had her afraid he knew every step she took. Some of those things aren't hers alone to shoulder the blame for, but they certainly feel like it some days. No matter how many years it's been.
These days it's easy to say that Emiko simply has no fucks to give to people and their expectations of her. Not to say that she has suddenly blossomed into a wild child or anything but she'll kiss who she wants when she wants where she wants (thanks, Dad). Emiko does what she loves now, or certainly doesn't hate, having found something of a passion in the kitchen and taking up working at a bakery in Diagon Alley after she graduated.
Baking is soothing in its rhythm and measurements. Her confidence in her own ability has blossomed as she moved on from an apprentice - she even has her own station now! They call her the Croissant Captain!
For all that Emiko has figured out in her professional life she still struggles a bit socially. Not a shy bird but certainly not the most outspoken voice in the room. She's got to rebuild everything now that she isn't being what everyone else wants her to be. That includes apologies - and having cut off even more old friends. It's lonely. Terribly, terribly lonely and you can't exactly make friends at some club downtown. Or, if you can, she hasn't managed it yet. So her closest friends may or may not be her customers.
Emiko's putting the pieces together though, and the image is sure to be wonderful. As soon as she figures out where those missing pieces went.
