THE CHARACTER
Chapter One: Childhood
Georgie Nolan grew up in one of the most loving and supportive households that could ever exist for a child. She always knew she was adopted, but her parents never made her feel any less Nolan than their other daughter. The two were similar in age and had a great bond, almost like twins, except they looked nothing alike. When they went to Hogwarts though, they were separated - one in Ravenclaw, and one in Hufflepuff. It didn’t mean they weren’t still as thick as thieves, and there were plenty of clever ways of communicating even from inside one another’s dorms, but they were able to forge their own paths.
Jeremiah had always allowed the girls to explore topics they were interested in and to be creative in their endeavors. When she was sorted into Ravenclaw it caused a small internal crisis being away from her sister. Though they weren't twins, they had a very twin-like bond growing up as near infants together. It didn’t take long for Georgie to find her tribe, and to know that she was very much able to connect with other Ravenclaw's who had strong skills in all their personal driven endeavors. For you see, her sister loved to learn. Georgie loved to learn about certain topics, mostly being archeological topics such as ancient ruins and anthropology.
Georgie had one main relationship during her time at Hogwarts. It was a slow and steady burn that turned into a love she wouldn’t know again until later in her life. Georgie was very likely to have married her young partner had the realities of graduation not settled in. They wanted to do different things and it was too hard to figure out a good compromise. Yet, she also knew that the kind of relationship she wanted wasn’t one of long distance. In the end, she said goodbye so they could do what their life passion was and so she could explore her own passions, hoping in the small piece of her heart that one day they’d meet again in a way that allowed them to be together fully. The eventual longing would fade, but the “what if” would always remain.
Chapter Two: Unexpected Truths
Georgie began her adult career at the Museum as an archeology assistant. She was blessed with a boss who had her do more than just schedule meetings and do paperwork. And she found quickly it was going to be the perfect fit for her and her life.
While career adventures were going well, health issues were not. Georgie started to get very fatigued and spent a lot of her time trying to recover herself. At the suggestion of a senior colleague, she went to St. Mungos to determine if there was anything wrong other than her pulling late nights and early mornings.
And this was where her world changed. She was diagnosed with a bone cancer, that could be easily fixed by a simple match donor. Except, because she was adopted she was not certain she'd find a donor on her own and would have to get on the wait-list. When she brought the news to her family, they got really quiet and strange, in a way that wasn't their usual quirky strange they could often exhibit.
At this point in her life, she learned her actual adoption story. Her mother was known, in fact, Georgie even knew her birth mom and technically Dad. They had been a part of her life since she was born, but she called them Aunt and Uncle.
As shocking as this was, Georgie understood the complicated nature of her birth. Her mother had gotten pregnant in her seventh year of Hogwarts and hid the pregnancy entirely. She wasn't sure who the father was, her either then boyfriend or her best friend who in a moment of mixed emotions she had also slept with. So, she broke up and isolated herself until she was able to graduate. The way Eliza put it, "I never would have kept the secret if it wasn't for robes."
As much of a shock as it was to discover you Aunt was your actual mother, the fact was she was a match. Eliza donated bone marrow and it saved Georgie's life.
Chapter Three: Connecting
Throughout the whole ordeal of finding out who her birth mother was, the cancer, and the treatments there was one person it was easy to escape to. Austin Brooks. The same senior colleague at the museum that suggested she go to St. Mungo’s in the first place. He became a constant comfort when she was needing a break from the family drama. Even if the family was very polite to one another, there were a lot of emotions.
One time, after a heavy talk with the family at a treatment, Georgie slipped away why the family continued to talk about what was the next best step for her. Her wandering led her to a very familiar route and before she had even decided where she was wandering to, she was outside Austin’s home.
“I’m not really sure why I’m here,” she stated flatly, her face not making any expression.
“Would you like a brandy?”
“Yes, actually.”
Georgie wasn’t much of a drinker under normal circumstances. The two sat in a very cozy fireplace room with books and trinkets everywhere. Georgie started to ask about all the things he had collected over the years, knowing that there was very little chance someone in their early 30s actually collected these all by hand. Georgie had long suspected her colleague had been around longer than he said, even the brightest brains couldn’t describe ancient Greece as though they were living there during volcanic eruptions and war.
After a lull in the conversation, she turned to him and asked. “If you turned me, would it cure me?”
The silence hung heavy, but she was genuinely curious. The chemo, the potential surgeries, the fact that a transplant might not even work had all been heavy on her mind. This was an easy solution to a problem now.
“It would,” he answered solemnly. “But I won’t do it.”
Georgie pulled the blanket a little more around her, always feeling cold these days. She took another sip of her brandy, each sip she made less of a face. “Well, I respect that,” she said. “But the least you can do now is tell me about when you were really alive, at least the first life.”
When she had gone through treatment and surgery and was declared with no sign of cancer, but would be watched heavily again she went to one person first.
“It’s gone,” she said holding up a brandy bottle, one of which she knew was his favorite.
“I’m glad.”
“Thank you,” she felt a sign come out unexpected. “For not letting me make such a rash decision.” She took his hand in hers. “Do you date mortals?” she asked. “Because I’d very much like to take you out.”
Chapter Four: Exploring
For the last nearly decade, Georgie and Austin have been dating. He stayed the same man she knew all these years, growing maybe a little softer around the edges. And now, she’s at the time when she does need to make a decision that could change her life forever. Should she stay a mortal or does she want this adventure to continue forever?
