Harry Potter:"Do you really think there's going to be a war, Sirius?"
Sirius Black: "It… feels like it did before."
TURN ON THE LIGHT is a Post- Potter roleplay that takes place twenty-five years after the Second Wizarding War.
We welcome canon and original characters in this (currently) sandbox style roleplay.
A social life wasn't something that Cody was used to having, but lately had been doing his best to try and have one. It wasn't always by his own choice, in fact more often than not it was JACE BLACKWOOD dragging him out (or Cody having to babysit him but that was besides the point). What he had started to learn though, was that it wasn't as terrifying as he had led himself to believe. Plus, becoming more and more engrossed in the world of Quidditch meant that a social life was something he was just going to have to get used to.
Tonight he had decided to venture out on his own, though he had mentioned it to a few people that there was a new little karaoke pub that had opened up that he was going to check out. Most people would look at him, see the colored hair and body full of tattoos and not think that singing was a hidden talent of his, but he was if nothing else an artist. It wasn't a talent he shared with many people, but those who did always seemed pleasantly surprised at the end result.
So after a couple shots of liquid courage, Cody found himself behind the microphone. The music started, and everything else just faded away. All of the anxiety, stress, worry...none of it mattered for those few minutes. As the song faded into an end, he let out a soft sigh as he took in the scattered applause. He slide into an empty seat at the bar, a drink swiftly in front of him. Was it a one and done kind of night? Only time would tell.

Liana, unlike some of her siblings, (JACE BLACKWOOD we’re looking at you here), was more extroverted and social. She did not always need to have a plan when going out, sometimes the very thought of sitting at home was enough for her to just leave the house and walk around until something spawned an interest. These actions had led to some of the best nights of her life. New bars, new regulars, new bookstores that do poetry readings or have authors come speak to people, and delicious new restaurants. There were endless possibilities.
It was a chilly winter's evening when Liana left for her nighttime walk feeling a little trapped inside the box she lived in. That wasn’t something that bothered her too much. She had lived in so many places throughout her life, even if just for a few months. Jungles in the peak of rainy season or summers in the desert. Winters in England weren’t so bad compared to those closer to the arctic north or south. At least here your eyelashes didn’t freeze immediately upon stepping outside. Though, that was half the fun of these strange places that her birth father and step-mother took her. Though, her adoptive fathers might have had a heart attack if they knew half of what happened on some of those trips.
As she wandered, she heard music and this was the first thing that seemed intriguing. The bar was small, and the music was karaoke. Not the kind of live music she had thought from the outside, but as she made her way in she could see who was singing. That more explained it. For as annoying as her brothers bff could be, he was really talented when it came to art and singing. Though, Liana wouldn’t say that out loud. She leaned against a beam and let him sing out his song. She always loved when someone felt like they wrote the song, like it came deep from their soul. That could be hit or miss at karaoke, and not something she herself could capture if on the stage. Singing wasn’t her strong suit, sue her.
She was one of the few people who clapped and was about to shout a supportive “whoo,” but held back when nobody else seemed to be as into that kind of karaoke support. The night was young. Instead she slipped into the barstool next to Cody. “When’s your encore?” she asked with a sheepish grin.
One of the advantages to being a relatively reclusive person, was that it made the few times he did go out a bit more fun. It was easier when it was a strange new location like this, as he tended to be nothing more than a passing face in the crowd. It was a bit easier for him to be more confident when he knew nobody knew his name, and if he messed up who cared? No pressure...no need to impress anyone, it was perfect.
Though apparently, tonight was not destined to be one of those easy, pressure free nights. No, in fact it was going to quickly turn into the opposite.
He heard someone slide into the empty chair next to him, paying them no mind at first as he sipped at his drink. After all, it was a bar and he wasn't exactly the type to chat with strangers. This stranger though, seemed to have other ideas and wasn't in fact a stranger at all. Three words, an extremely familiar voice, and Cody was REALLY glad it was a dimly lit bar and he hoped the shade of red his face was turning wasn't obvious.
He turned to see his best friends sister Liana sitting next to him with a grin on her face, and he felt his brain turn to mush. It was bad enough that someone he knew was there, but the fact that it was her was just the icing on the cake. Not that there was anything wrong with her, it was actually quite the opposite. Because you see, Cody may kind of sort of had a tiny little crush on her.
She had no idea of course, or at least he prayed to every existing deity (and some that didn't exist) that she didn't. If she did, she didn't let it show though and that was a good thing. He took another sip, giving himself a moment to compose his thoughts. "Depends, feel like joining me for a duet?" he said with a grin, a bit surprised at his words. Maybe he had one drink too many.
