THE CHARACTER
The Kettleburn family was a well enough established pureblood family known for their easy relationships with all sorts of magical animals. Amongst the only families to have been graced by a phoenix, though not domesticated. They have extensive family stables and carious other habitats for animals and are a known supplier of ethically sourced magical creature feathers and the like. While the family tends to simply supply Apothecaries and schools following opportunities brought on following the misfortunes of the wizarding war they also purchased and began to run Slug & Jiggers Apothecary.
Going into the twenty first century the line was quickly secured by a squalling son, followed several years later in the cold months of winter in the beginning of February by a daughter; Agatha Mai Kettleburn. Everything from her birth to her name to her presentation to the family was average, unassuming. Except as it was wont to do time passed, and passed, and passed; and eventually her parents grew concerned. Multiple visits to St. Mungo's, sour tasting potions, and visits by professionals in the subject lead to one new word whispered: "squib." Venomous, almost, and it changed everything.
Agatha never showed an ounce of magical prowess like her brother. She may have attended the same tutors her brother had but never once did she levitate her teacup, set fire to her books, or set off fireworks to entertain herself.
There was no magic in the girl.
Where her brother received his Hogwarts letter Aggie was told that she was going to be homeschooled (on some level they still hoped that she might show some magical ability even these many years late). So her mother had her taught in the subjects that she could manage even without magic, while also employing a tutor who might teach her in the subjects relevant to the muggle world. Her lessons were heavy, but with little to no social life outside of the magical creatures at the manor she had little ways to waste time past walking down the lane into the nearest town, which was a lot of effort and always brought a lot of worry whenever she did it without alerting her parents.
Still, she did that. Over summers and school breaks when her parents paid far more attention to her brother. So, she at least had a group of friends down in town that she could play with, even though outside of them she remained rather painfully shy.
Come the school year she was back to learning: Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, Potions, Divination, Astronomy, History of Magic, Arithmancy, Alchemy.
Aggie was more of an obedient child than anything, raised by her mother to hold some fear in her differences and caution in letting others be aware of them. By the age of sixteen her mother and father had given her a wand, which whilst it did her no good it would also stop any questions. She was both hidden and protected and expected to, when necessary, perform as a young pureblood lady if only for the most part in the walls of her own home.
Agatha, by the time she'd sat her NEWTs and muggle tests was ... curious. So taking on a position at Slug & Jiggers Apothecary, her family's shop, she took up an apartment in Diagon Alley and set about figuring out how to live her life - brushing up against how she was raised and figuring out who and what she was.
