Harry Potter:"Do you really think there's going to be a war, Sirius?"
Sirius Black: "It… feels like it did before."
TURN ON THE LIGHT is a Post- Potter roleplay that takes place twenty-five years after the Second Wizarding War.
We welcome canon and original characters in this (currently) sandbox style roleplay.
Working in The Three Broomsticks did have its ups and downs; especially in the evening going into the night. Darkness tended to draw out a different dining and drinking crowd to the day shift and Sera knew she would just deal with it. She needed this job to balance the budget as there wasn’t always enough gigs to go around. She certainly wouldn’t ask her mother for money as it didn’t feel right but she did get little helpful things for the kitchen instead that were better than money. So what if everything was mismatched? Seraphim just surfed the chaos of a home where nothing matched and even her best china didn’t.
Seraphim wore her usual waitress / barkeep type of outfit which was knee length black skirt, a white short sleeved blouse with puffy sleeves and an apron in green. That also had a space for a little notepad and pencil so she could record orders and the table numbers for future recall. She was getting used to hearing whispers about her shapely butt by now and normally it took a slightly evil smile to put the octopi off. Her way of referring to handsy customers who thought they would get more than just good service.
So bringing with practised ease to table ten a big tray of tankards of beer she placed it down with a professional smile on her face. They’d already paid at the bar for this and the five guys at the table looked as if they were here for a celebration. Certainly better dressed than most people you’d find here in the evening. Then as she was about to leave with her tray she felt a hand on her butt. She quickly located the arm where the hand was attached and looked him right in the eye. A look that promised pain in great measure but her smile remained; it just got a bit tighter as she said in a very quiet voice “get that wandering hand of my butt unless you really want to know why I wear little heels”. She gave him ten seconds which was more than he really should have gotten before his pleasure became pain.
A little stamp of her left foot changed the look on his face dramatically and his buddies laughed. Seraphim’s smile broadened as she walked away her hips swaying tray In hand. It felt good to teach lessons like that.

TERROR OF KNOWING WHAT THIS WORLD IS ABOUT TERROR OF KNOWING WHAT watchin' some good friends screaming - - - - - - - - L E T M E O U T !
At a table near the big one with the men, Fee watched, though it wasn't obvious she was watching because she was reading as she sat and drank her tea and ate her snack. However. not much escaped Fee's notice-EVER-and she snickered a little, trying to hide her mirth at the woman's words. Quietly, she motioned for the waitress.
"May I please have another pot? Same kind! No need to use a second one." She was polite, extra polite, to make up for the men's behavior. After a moment, the younger woman returned with the tea. "Thank you! You know, you're far more polite than I would've been." Fee shied away from a lot, but not that kind of behavior. She'd only had to experience it twice, luckily, but still. She had shut it down VERY fast, and in words that would've shocked anyone that knew her-she was normally very quiet and polite, never one to draw much attention to herself.

Just before Seraphim was about to head back to the bar with the big tray she heard another voice; not the guys but a redheaded woman at a near table. She looked like she was minding her own business with a book and pot of tea and she asked for a fresh pot.
She could deal with this unexpected order quite easily but it was the accent that made Seraphim smile. She didn't come across too many fellow Irish witches very often especially hot looking ones like Fee. Seraphim was pure Belfast in the way she spoke and while she'd slowed her speech down just a little she'd never lost the accent.
Returning with the fresh tea she left it beside her customer having noted in on her pad once she got to the bar area. She now got to hear what the witch had to say. She had to be more subtle that how she'd have prefered to deal with it. She could do interesting things with a wand if a guy was being handsy like that.
So looking cheerful she said to Fee "I'd have loved to do more to him but I have to be subtle. I'm Seraphim by the way. And here is your fresh tea".

Fee nodded. "Thank you!" She said loudly, her Corkian brogue much rougher than Seraphim's. She hadn't lost that, no matter how long she'd lived in London, and then in the Hogwart's City. You could take the girl off the cabbage farm but couldn't take the cabbage farm off the girl!
"True. Do you want ME to say something?" Or turn them into giraffes!! "Let me know." Her tone of voice was quiet, but two Irish voices in a whisper were still loud and tough on the ears.
You could say the same about Seraphim though she had lived in Hogsmeade since she she ten and went to Hogwarts she'd never lost her upbringing. It wasn't just that her mother was muggleborn which made her a half blood; she'd kept the muggle side of her life too while learning to be a witch with many school adventures while she was there.
She'd also kept being a Slytherin despite her thinking the sorting hat was mad at the time. Being there made her stronger in the end and the person she was now. So you didn't mess with an Irish Slytherin alumni.
Hearing what Fee had to say made her smile a bit more. Perhaps the men should suffer a bit more after all. They might still hear what they said even if she kept her voice low. They'd know their ears were burning even if they didn't know what was happening.
"Giraffes sound like fun. I don't recall seeing that in a standard spell book" she chuckled. That was being inventive all right.
She was finding herself liking this redhead already.

Fee laughed. "Honestly, I am not sure I can actually do it, but I can try. Just let me know!" She offered. She went back to reading, and eating her pastry, watching the group of men surreptitiously. She could at least try a Silence charm. She was a good Witch, though her spells weren't the best. She silently used her foot to drag her handbag closer to her, and reached in, finding her wand. She placed it on the table, quietly, and went about her day as if nothing was happening.
She watched Seraphim interact with the men once more, and would watch for the younger woman to give some sort of signal of distress. Where the hell was someone else? Someone good at casting? Why was it just that group and her in here today??
Customers were thin on the ground right now which Seraphim found strange for an evening. Still she was called over to order another round of drinks and she jotted these selections down on her little note pad.
As she was doing this single customers were starting to come in looking for meals. Just three more for now but no witches; each at a separate table. So that just left her and Fee as witches here tonight. Was this a guys night out in general?
This time they didn't try anything with the past lesson still fresh in their minds but the night was still young. They might try again later. So off went Seraphim to the bar so she could give her order to the barman. She had warned the group that a wizarding stout took a while to get ready; you didn't rush it as it was a crime against the beer.
So she got the call from table 1 while the beers were prepared and took his order; the rabbit stew with an irondrake lager. Then she swung by Fee again to look in on the other witch. Something felt off tonight but she couldn't figure out what it was.
"Hello again. It's usually busier than this" she quietly posed adding "I came here as a Slytherin student buying butterbeer and now I'm the one doing the work". Fee got a cute little smile back for at least trying to look out for her.

Fee nodded. "Aye, same, though I was Hufflepuff, and a few years ahead of you." Fee didn't look it, but she was already in her thirties, with not much to show for it except Jacques and her new job at Hogwarts. Still, she had no mate or child, nothing to keep her at home on a weekend evening, when the other girls she worked with were all at home, homemaking and wifing and...whatever else they did. They didn't sit in diners alone, reading, nursing a pot of tea.
"I may as well eat something before I go; what do you recommend?"
A few years ahead. Seraphim made the quick calcualtion in her head and wondered if she might have ran into her at some point; a rather loud first year might have gotten noticed but not by everyone. She would have remembered somebody like Fee. So they probally hadn't met.
She still had a question to answer that was food related. So cheerfully suggested "that depends on how simple or complicated you want it. If its simple I would suggest the curried pumpkin and corriander soup. We also have oxtail soup and rabbit stew; all served with a side of wheaten bread and some butter.
If you do have the time to enjoy it I'd suggest the hog roast, vegetables of the day and baby potatoes; served with gravy if you want it. There also is roast chicken also served with the above".
So that was the best of the menu summed up for now. Seraphim was still free and single and now the gigs were picking up again getting some more travel and needing to spend less time working here. She hadn't any idea what a wife did either. A possibility she certainly hadn't ruled out in the future. A little question poked out its head and waited for Seraphim to notice it.

Fee nodded. "I will have the hog roast, please." It was probably too much food, but she'd share some tomorrow with Charlie and River; they were meant to do some shopping in Diagon Alley. Or, rather, SHE would shop and they would flirt. It was whatever now; she had gotten right with it. She thinks.
"I teach transfiguration at Hogwarts. All levels. I wasn't kidding when I said that I a turn them into giraffes. I never actually HAVE, but I can try. They'll be frightened, at any rate." She shrugged.
"The hog roast is an excellent choice." Seraphim mused. Then added in a quieter voice "very impressive. If you want to try something go ahead but this won't take long to put together". Occasionally they''d deal with a professor here but Fee was a hot one. She still had no signals to work with so this would be all about the food for now. She heard the 'good luck' and figured it was meant to be about those guys she'd probally have tangle with again later on.
So she left looking more cheerful and headed into the kitchen to pass on the food orders. She asked for apple sauce for Fee's hog roast as a little extra item and then brought the drinks orders out. It was an efficient kitchen so by the time the other men got their drinks orders sorted out it was time for food.
Her tray this time had Fee's hog roast with the side order of apple sauce. The vegetables were roasted turnip and carrots and she also had a little gravy bowl too. The man's stew was brought over first and then she'd serve Fee. Firstly he wanted to pay his bill so she was still with him.

Fee was carefully watching the newcomers to see if they'd add to the trouble. Since they didn't appear to, she returned her attention to the table of men. She could two ways: Her "Hogwarts professor" voice, or turn them into a pig or something. With a quick flash of light, she was her animagus self-a large, black cat-and was on her feet (or paws, really), heading for the table of boys. No one from the boys' table noticed her in this form, though the flash of light should have given it away. She hurriedly ran under the table, and found the knees of the ringleader.
A quick CHOMP and she scurried to a corner, resuming her normal form as chaos rang out.
WHAT BIT ME? Fee came back to her seat, a smirk on her pretty face. Before she reached her seat, she stopped, hand on tiny hips. "I did. And I'll do it again if you keep it up," she said, in her meanest professor voice, which, being Fee, wasn't that mean.
Seraphim gave her customer his change and added a little extra information to her original order so she'd know it had been paid. There was a lot more to this job than just looking pretty and being efficent. She also worked the bar and while the tavern hadn't embraced cocktails there was still a skill in pouring an Irish stout the right way.
Now nobody would miss what Fee had just done; so with a smile went to Fee's table and presented her dinner. Then turned her attention to the group of men she was telling off in meanest professor voice. It didn't look like two of them weren't taking her seriously.
"Now now boys. You should be listening right now. You know you deserved it and somebody might well have done this in school too; if they didn't do worse" she added to reinforce the point. Having proved it once already they were more wary of Seraphim. In fact everybody present was getting the lesson and she wouldn't leave Fee out to dry if anything kicked off. So far nothing had as the chaos started to calm down again.
Moving over to Fee she had quiet and supportive words. "Thank you so much for that. I'll need to make it up to you later". And she would do just that one way or another just like she'd do for her friends.

Fee settled in to eat; she'd have to remember to take some home for Jacques. He'd LOVE it, and he was getting older, and she treated him sometimes.
When Seraphim came back, she smiled. "Next time you have a problem, just remember what you've learnt!" She said. "Even if you can't do transfiguration, a little salt in the sugar cubes should make them right!" She didn't normally condone violence of any form, but sometimes, you had to do what you had to do.
She took her plate. "Not necessary!!" She chirped. "But a bit more tea would be grand!" She smiled, and started to eat.
Seraphim noted the boys were behaving themselves at last; with luck it would last till the end of her shift. She noted the suggestion that Fee made and it would work in a pinch.
"I'll bring you more tea. Do you want the same blend?" she posed with a smile on her face. Another glance to the troublesome table of men showed they were both safe for now.
Now Fee was tucking into the hog roast. A very good choice but she still felt she owed Fee. The quiet night had continued and looked like it would. Before long she could swap with the bar staff and work there.
