Another year, another bout of time wasted. His dark eyes looked over the gathering students. God, these might be worse than the batch the year previous - and that was saying something (because they were disappointments times ten). With an annoyed sigh that he didn't bother to hide he rolled his eyes up toward the ceiling of the Great Hall. Night sky. Again? They had been doing that for ages. He had heard about it when he was a student at Ilvermorny. These brits really couldn't shake anything up could they? They were probably still talking about how annoyed they were about the Boston Tea Party. Oh well, it was a check. And the means for something else that Atticus was working on...
Catching someone staring at him his eyes narrowed. "What are you looking at?" He angrily challenged whoever it was student or staff. He wasn't one to mince words. Why would he when he was always right?

How exciting this was. Marlin's first year at Hogwarts. He had heard all the stories, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Each tale told the more excited he became, waiting for his letter and running around the house like a madman when it arrived.
Now, the day was here, and he stood in the great hall. Looking at all, it wonders. The pranks he was going to pull were going to be incredible. Marlin placed his hands in his pockets, admiring the Scenery until his eyes landed on a professor. Well, he hoped it was one. When the man met his eyes, it almost felt like one of those cowboy movies. Marlin had a feeling this guy was going to be his arch-nemesis. So he smiled. "Oh, nothing, sir. It's wonderful to see who will teach us small children." His head tilted a bit, and he smirked. This guy would be more fun to torture than that older man at the bar he played tricks on.

Alwin had been assigned to help guide the first years in, not too tedious a task except for when one decided to sneak away and cause trouble. Or just cause trouble in general. Alwin prided himself on being a good for nothing, but that didn't mean he wasn't good at his job. No, he was familiar with all the personalities of his teachers, well enough anyway, and knew who to avoid when.
So, his nerves were jumping when he saw that little blonde first year trotting up to Atticus.
"Hey there little bro, how about we get back in line and poke the porc-u-pine?"

Youth. Atticus rolled his eyes in annoyance. They all liked to think they were different than the last (he sure did) but they were all the same. All mediocre, rarely exceptional. They would know by the end of the school year. The Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor would make certain of it.
It was then that his dark eyed gaze met with Marlin's. Almost instantly the two squared off. Hooooo boy. These kids weren't at the school for a full hour and already he had found his enemy numero uno. Fan-fucking-tastic. That little smile. He wanted to smack it right off the boy's face if it wasn't illegal. Maybe he could change the law? No. That was a whole can of basilisks he didn't wan to open.
"I wouldn't be so quick to blame your future shortcomings on me, boy." Atticus unashamedly countered, a verbal turning up of his nose. This precocious blonde boy was going to be trouble with a capital T (probably several capital Ts if spelling worked that way). Alwin approached and Atticus sighed heavily. "Oh fantastic. They're multiplying." Turning away from them he pretended to find something of interest on the chair beside him. This school year couldn't go by quickly enough.

'I wouldn't be so quick to blame your future shortcomings on me, boy.' Marlin tilted his head at the professor before him. "I don't know about that sir. Don't they say teachers mold their students?" A fat grin came to his face. Well now this professor was going to be fun around...lots of fun. Before Marlin could have more fun toying with the professor in front of him he was interpreted by another adult.
With a smile at the new man in front of him. "OK Mister. I just couldn't help but to look around a place like this." He shrugged his shoulders looking around the castle.
"Yeah, it's mighty big little guy." Alwin grinned down at him, bobbing his head in a nod. "Plenty of secrets to figure out, once you've got the time." They weren't meant to encourage mischief and maybe he wasn't, necessarily. Just passing on the tradition of figuring this old castle out and all. Little bros and bro-ettes and bro-ems had to have fun and all. Just like he had as a kid.
"Don't worry Professor, I won't let 'em be too naughty around the place." Not like Atticus would probably believe him or anything, what with being one of the youngest members of the staff and not being too serious himself to begin with - especially compared to the Professor.
The Welcome Back Feast had been most exciting when Luffy had been a first year himself. These years it was exciting betting on who might join their house, who might cause the most chaos. Now, waiting for the line to trail in and the sorting to begin things were just waiting to get interesting. Surrounded by friends just waiting now for the excitement. Granted, the tables didn't get too rowdy until the sorting actually began but that was something to look forward to. Figuring out what the new squirts were going to be like, all a part of the fun.

"I'm not your teacher." He glared at him harshly. Other Professors would have been more mindful of exactly how they presented. Parents were so quick to go off the handle nowadays, get you fired for the smallest thing, but Atticus just didn't give a rat's ass. He was who he was and he had never wanted to be a teacher in charge of shaping young minds anyways. Most of these kids he wanted to hit upside the head the old fashioned muggle way. "Not yet..." And he hoped he would never see that day. He would change all of his classes to advanced fifth year and up and see that the boy flunked before then. That would save him from the annoyance.
Merlin how he wanted to slap that stupid, toothy baby teeth filled grin right off the blonde's face. Composure, Atticus. You need it all now. Don't assault a student on the first day. Save it for at least day two.
Another adult seemed to occupy Marlin for the time being and Atticus seized the opportunity to look elsewhere losing the boy from his sights. Out of sight very much out of mind and letting out an exhale the Professor picked up his tea cup dismally and took a sip. Day one and he was already over it. A new record.
Ramona meanwhile sat at the Ravenclaw table reading a book except it was upside down. Her long blonde hair cascaded down each of her shoulders wearing a purple satin dress, her robe open and house tie loosely draped over her shoulders. "Welcome back, Luffy." She greeted the Gryffindor boy without so much as looking up when she did so, still immersed in her literature. "Any fun plans for this semester? Perhaps something quite loud?" Like most of the Gryffindor boys he could be quite noisy - not that she minded. She didn't mind much.
