Fee sat in the staff room, engrossed in a novel, but her fingers working fast to stuff some lunch down her gullet. The ginger-haired professor was busy, usually, and today was no exception. She'd had to break up a couple of arguments in her first and third hour classes, and Slytherin was this close to losing more points. She hated to be *that* professor, though. It was a small wonder she was a professor at all, but it was her only best idea at the time she applied, so here she was. She was small, quiet, and nerdy, and even most of the Fourth year boys railroaded her. Still, her class was important to them graduating, so they were generally ok until the end. However, the current session had just begun, and they were still restless. She didn't blame them-she remembered.
Someone else came in. "'Allo," she offered in her Cork, Irish accent. She didn't put the book down, though, and made no other acknowledgements immediately. After the last word of the last sentence, though, she sat it down, face up-so as not to lose her place. "Good Arvo," she said. Cork slang for Afternoon.
it's something unpredictable but in the end it's right

After so long spent out in the field it felt absurd for Charlie to be squeezing himself into something borderline presentable. It hadn't even been a week since his last trip, the thought of which had a brush rising on his cheeks, that he had gotten the owl from Hogwarts. A request for him to substitute in for care of magical creatures, not the most boring thing considering his little hatchling got to tag along and he got to share his enthusiasm for dragons. A win win. Charlie certainly hasn't been born to be a teacher but classes went about the same as teaching any trainee. Just had to knock the basics into their heads and remind them that dragons were dangerous beasties, despite how cute they were.
But, now that his lessons had finished for the day he had collected up the classwork and headed into the castle. Time to find the pesky staff room. Rarely did Charlie ever stay long enough to need it but if he was going to be here for a few days, well, it would be worth it. Finally opening the correct door he blinked at the familiar greeting, grinning broadly. "Good arvo, Fee!" Charlie parroted, It was nice to see a familiar face, "How has your day been?"

She smiled as she looked up.
"Charlie!" She said. "What brings you to Hogwarts? Are you in town to see...River?" She asked. She was aware, even if she wasn't yet ready to admit it to herself. She still held out an iota of hope that River was just rebounding and she could win him back later. What a dweeb she was.
"My day is going OK; not too many problems. We'll see what my Fifth and Sixth year classes hold for me, though," she said. She extended her hand, offering him a radish. "Fancy a radish?" She asked. "I'd offer you some tea, but I've nearly finished it all!" She said.

Charlie grinned, "Not here to see River I'm afraid," though he'd love to if he ever actually had the time to. "No, I'm here to teach Care of Magical Creatures, just subbing in for a bit while the Professor's away." Not his favorite thing, but certainly not his least favorite. The kids were fun, and he got to play with different creatures than he normally did. And talk about dragons. A lot.
"Ah, the older ones. Those are the tricky ones." Merlin knew that he had been a handful back when he was attending Hogwarts. "Sure," Charlie accepted the radish with his spare hand, examining it curiously and smiling. And he bit into it; chewing, swallowing, and smiling, "Haven't had a good radish in a while, I think." Not since the last time his mum had made them anyway, Charlie was more willy-nilly about that sort of thing when he was all the way off in Romania.
"Oh, no need for tea. Just need to get some grading done myself." And then he plunked down in the seat across from her and set his sheath of paper down. Not the most exciting thing, but if he was going to be here for a week he was going to have to get some actual work done.

Fee smiled.
"Ah, so. We'll see more of each other then! You really ought to knock up River," she said, forgetting that that term meant something else in British English than Irish English. "I mean..go by and see him," she said. "I need to, it's been a while," she said. She bit into another radish, wincing at the spice.
"I didn't know the Professor was out," she said. Of course, she wouldn't-she didn't interact much with the other professors, preferring to stay in the quiet sanctity of her classroom. She knew them and was cordial but they weren't friends. Not yet, anyway, It was STILL weird to not refer to them all as "Professor Such-and-Such" and instead by their real, adult names.
"Indeed, they are, but they'll settle down with a quickness. I have no doubt. They're all good kids through and through. It's just early in the year yet," she said. "I am not worried. Aye, these ones are from me garden-I've got a little pot out the back." She'd started gardening to distract herself from River. And Charlie, truthfully. And whatever weirdness was going on-she still couldn't (or WOULDN'T) place it.
She watched him settle in.
"Do you need help?" She asked. "It can be a chore, grading. I have me own to do this arvo," she said. "I'll wait until I am home with Jacques. He likes to help," she said.

"Yes we will." It was her next sentence that had him on his ass, collapsing back into the chair and flushing bright red, "Excuse me?" Because that- that was certainly a thing for her to say. He wasn't sure how to take it, as acceptance of their relationship or, well, something? "Ah, right, yeah, I think I will at some point." Ok that was a relief. "It can be hard to get around to see each other all the way from Romania." Of course, River was visiting the dragons fairly regularly too so that made up for it.
"Only for the week, thankfully." A week was about all Charlie could take of all of these kids, for all that he was fond of Jack and his friends, plus his little niblings.
"Yeah, they probably will. I'm just better with hoards of dragon hatchlings than children." Charlie chuckled lightly and gave a shrug, he did his best by the kids though. "Your garden? That's wonderful Fee!" Charlie couldn't say that he had so much of a green thumb, no, rather he traded that ability for his gift for creatures in the womb. Probably for the best, or his job would be exceptionally difficult.
"Ah, yes I think I could use some." Charlie shrugged helplessly as he spread the papers in front of him, "I'm not quite used to this sort of thing I'm afraid."
